DOBBIE: The death of Douglas Laird Dobbie of Brandon, occurred in the city on Sunday, July 23, 2006. Douglas was born at Rosetown, Saskatchewan on May 3, 1920, the only child of Margaret and Earl Dobbie. He grew up in the Rosetown area, receiving his education at Anglia and Ridpath, Saskatchewan. Douglas farmed in Manitoba and Saskatchewan until 1964. He then began work with the Federal Department of Public Works as a Building Supervisor at the Post Office in Brandon. He then transferred to the Dept. of Indian Affairs, where he worked until his retirement. Doug received numerous awards and commendations during his nineteen years of dedicated service. Douglas was a member of the Orange Lodge and a member of the Carberry Fife and Drum Band. He was also a member of the Brandon Curling Club and had received many trophies and awards for his curling.. An accomplished pianist and drummer, he played in many orchestras and bands. Doug was well known for his fast-ball pitch in western Saskatchewan. Doug loved crafts and wood working until he lost his sight. He spent many hours listening to old-time music. Doug loved to travel in Canada and the southern United States. He spent many years in Phoenix, Arizona. Doug is survived by his loving wife, Jean of Brandon; son, Wayne Dobbie (Dorothy) of Alexander AB; daughters, Wendy Williams of Calgary AB, Wilma (Garry) Main of Calgary AB. He leaves grandchildren, Wayne (Krista), Bonnie Dobbie, Daena van Mulligan, Lori Elke, Chris (Debbie), Connor and Collin Williams and Amber, Kelly and Anson Main. He also leaves great grandchildren, Raquel, Eric and Thomas Pashe, Sheldon and Cora Main and Joshua Williams. Doug was predeceased by; his parents Margaret and Earl Dobbie and by son-in-law Leon Williams. The Ceremony to Celebrate Doug's Life will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Thursday, July 27, 2006 at 2:00 pm. Pastor Craig Gibbs will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be: Amber Main, Bonnie Dobbie, Deanne Van Mulligan and Lori Elke. Pallbearers will be: Chris, Connor and Collin Williams, Wayne Dobbie Jr. and Anson and Kelly Main. Interment will be in the Alexander cemetery. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Douglas to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, 354-10th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 4G1.
