Obituary

YOUNG: Dorothy Jean Young passed away on September 7, 2007 at Fairview Nursing Home at the age of 92. Dorothy was born in Brandon, Manitoba on July 14, 1915, the eldest of five children born to Jean and Harry Fulcher. Dorothy grew up and received her education in Rapid City, Manitoba after her family moved there in 1918. She volunteered with various groups in Rapid City and enjoyed taking part in community functions. She continued to live in the family home until 1996 when she moved to Brandon, residing in Lion's Manor. Dorothy began working at a local drugstore in Rapid City until she started work as a telephone operator for the Manitoba Telephone System, in 1949. She continued to work there until 1977, when she retired after the last dial phones were installed in Rapid City. Dorothy was the last MTS manual operator and was a proud member of the Manitoba Telephone Pioneers. Dorothy enjoyed playing bridge and bingo and was an avid fan of curling and tennis. She was interested in local and national politics, and followed each closely. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Doug; granddaughter Lisa (Rob) Huston; great grandchildren Sam and Sydney Huston; granddaughter Jody (Randy) Spencer; great grandchildren Lexi, Lainy and Slade Spencer. A sister Betty Broughton; sister-in-law Marie Fulcher, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents Harry and Jean Fulcher; sister Gwen Fulcher; and brothers John and Doug Fulcher. A celebration of Dorothy's life was held at the Rapid City Seniors Centre on Wednesday, September 12, 2007. A private family interment followed. Flowers are gratefully declined. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Dorothy to Fairview Home, 1351-13th Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 4S6.
