Obituary

TAPP: Dorothy May Tapp, after a lengthy illness, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on June 21, 2004 in her 95th year. "Dot" was born September 15, 1909 in Brandon, Manitoba to Lewis Walter and Kate Emma Farthing. As she grew up, she attended Fleming, Normal and Alexander schools, and learned never to fear hard work. As a young girl she worked on farms in the Hartney, Wawanesa, and Alexander areas. Later she found employment at the Prince Edward Hotel where she was head waitress for many
years. She married Bill Tapp in Brandon on August 3, 1929 and through this union had two daughters, Leona-Mae and Lauraine. The couple began their marriage in a house on Percy Street, and for Dot this remained her home for over 70 years. She became known as a woman who loved people and never
had a hard or mean word about anyone. Her children and grandchildren remember her as a wonderful, loving mother who loved to sew, crochet and could make almost anything she decided she wanted to make. An active
member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints since 1955, she was renowned for her Christian service. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Bill in 1989, her parents in 1956 and 1959, and her son-in-law, Russell Bychek in 2003. She is survived by her daughters Lauraine Tapp of Brandon and Leona-Mae Bychek of Murrieta Hot Springs, California; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. The grandchildren from Leona-Mae were Dottie Benton (Dick), Kenny (Rachel), Shane (Marilyn),
Cheryl and Brandon (Michelle). From Lauraine they were Terry, Bryce (Dawn) and Lauralee (Darrell). Pallbearers at her funeral (held on Friday, June 25, 2004 at the LDS Chapel in Brandon) were Charles Cuerrier,
Darrell Dey, Joseph Horne, Ben Horne, Collin Palmer and Stuart Perry.
