SMITH: It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, sister and grandmother Dorothy June Smith on Sunday, March 28, 2004, after a long courageous battle with cancer. June will be greatly missed by: her daughter, Sandy (Chris) and grandchildren, Tatjana, Caleb and Luka; her son Jason (Shelly) and grandchildren, James Jordan, Shaune and Sierra; her brothers and sister, Bob (Joan), Barbara, Ray (Sherry), Brian (Elaine), Doug (Margaret) and Jim. She was predeceased by: her younger sister, Nancy and her parents, Dorothy "Dot" and Ray Smith. June will be remembered as someone that seemed to know everyone in town and was always there to help. She spent time volunteering at nursing homes in Brandon, doing knitting groups with the residents. She was a Brownie and Girl Guides leader for many years and actively participated in fundraising events for Brownies and Girl Guides. She was also active with the Big Brothers and Sisters Ugly Bartender contest. In more recent years June spent a lot of time with her grandchildren, often reading or baking. The Funeral Service will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North, on Monday, April 5, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. Flowers are gratefully declined. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of June to the Canadian Cancer Society Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7.
