Obituary

McLEOD: Lyell announces the passing of his beloved wife, Dori, at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on July 31, 1999. Dori is survived by her husband Lyell of 40 years; sister-in-law Helen Bates of Stony Plain, Alberta; favorite niece, Shelli Johnston of DeWenton, Alberta; brother-in-law, Roy Hall and his sons Stan and Mike of Regina, Saskatchewan; sister-in-law Merna Moffatt of Honeymoon Bay, BC. Also surviving are several aunts and uncles on Lyell's side of the family; a special aunt, Alyce Johnston, of Brandon who she talked to daily and by Alyce's son and 3 daughters. Several other nieces and nephews from across Western Canada; special friend Marion Scott of Red Deer, Alberta; many good friends here and the United States; and BoJo her cat who she loved dearly also survive. Dori was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Mabel Bates; three brothers: Fred, George, and Dave; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Neil and Marvel McLeod; and sister-in-law, Sheila Hall. Dori was born in Parkerview District of Saskatchewan on March 28, 1916. Throughout her life she was a very giving person who was always phoning and enquiring of her friends who had lost their spouses or who were ill. Her life of some 50 years in Brandon was spent working at different careers. Dori's years of employment included working at the Safeway on Rosser Ave., Brandon Packers office, Hi-Way Supermarket, and the Upholstery Shoppe which she started with Laverne Roman. She completed her employment years by working at C.D.C. Home & Leisure. Dori taught swimming to pre-schoolers at the Y.M.C.A. She was a commander officer of the Wrenettes for 5 years which disbanded to her great sorrow when she left. Also, Dori was a Big Sister, past president and life member of the Ladies Auxillery #247 Legion and past honored Royal Lady and life member of O.O.R.P. #138 Brandon. She also was a member and past president of the Lady Trainmen. Since retirement, Dori and Lyell spent 17 glorious winters in Arizona. Seven of those years, Dori ran what got to be named the McLeod Golf Gang with up to 50 golfers in her command once a week. She was also a formidable floor shuffle board player in Arizona winning several trophies. Summers were spent at the cottage at Sandy Lake. Golfing and water skiing in the younger years. Dori will be sadly missed by her husband and all relatives and friends who knew her over the years. A ceremony to celebrate Dori's life was held at Memories Chapel on August 5, 1999. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dori may be made to her favorite charities, Brandon Humane Society, 2200 -17th Street E., Brandon, MB or to the Canadian Cancer Society, 42 McTavish Ave. E., Brandon, MB, R7A 2B2. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel, 727-0330.
