It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Doreen June Elizabeth McDonald (nee Hickmott), beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother on Monday, August 28, 2023 at the age of 94 years.
Doreen was predeceased by her loving husband, retired R.C.M.P S/Sgt. (#15613) Donald McDonald, son Steven, and great grandson Rowan Irwin.
She leaves to cherish in her memory her sons Michael (Madonna), Patrick (Joanne), Richard (Susan) and William (Lois); grandchildren Tanya, Jennifer, Neal, Bobbi Lynn (James Meyer), Lorraine, Vicki (Dick Irwin), Shawn and Rory; great grandchildren Baylee, Parker, Roylynn, Raychel, Reegan, Rhett, Aubrey, Graydon, Rowdy, Brooks, and Carey; and great great grandson Cruz.
Born June 21, 1929, Doreen married Donald on September 13, 1952 and they soon welcomed five amazing sons into their lives. Together they built a wonderful life following the path that the R.C.M.P. took them on. They enjoyed living in small communities throughout Ontario, Central Saskatchewan and Manitoba; they met many life-long friends along the way and cherished all the memories that were made.
Family was of the utmost importance to Doreen. She is fondly remembered by those who loved her for her cooking and baking. Her home was always open for family gatherings and there were always extra chairs for friends who wanted to join.
Doreen also had a strong passion for animals; together she and Donald bred West Highland White Terriers and Cairn Terriers. They also enjoyed showing dogs and through the dog show circuit they continued to build their circle of lifelong friends.
The Celebration of Doreen's Life will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Barbara Jardine officiating, followed by a reception. A private family interment will take place at Rosewood Memorial Gardens.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Doreen may be made to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200 – 17th Street East, Brandon, MB R7A 7M6 or Funds for Furry Friends, #208 – 740 Rosser Avenue, Brandon, MB R7A 0K9.
