Obituary

BAYES: Doreen Ellen Bayes (Edwards) beloved wife of Cecil passed away July 3, 2008 with her loving family at her side. Mom was born on May 14, 1931 in Brandon, the youngest child of Harry and Katherine Edwards. She attended school in Moore Park and when her parents passed away, she moved to her sister and brother-in-law, Ethel and Alf Black and attended Tremaine School. She later moved to Brandon, where she worked at Woolworth's Department Store until her marriage to Cecil Bayes on August 9, 1952. They then moved to the farm at Rapid City, where they lived for fifty-two years. They raised a family of eleven children. Mom was a great cook and baker. The family would all come home for Sunday dinner and she would have a great meal ready, even though she very seldom had advance notice. There were always desserts of all kinds. Helen made all kinds of homemade bread and buns. She also enjoyed taking her children to all 4-H meetings and sporting events. She loved to coffee with neighbours and play card games. She would knit mitts, baby outfits and scarves for her grandchildren. She loved being a grandmother to her sixteen grandchildren. Doreen was a member and past president of the Rapid City Legion Auxilary. They honored her with a guard of honor at the service. Doreen and Cecil loved to play crib and loved to see who could "skunk" the other right up until five days before her death. In the fall of 2004, Doreen and Cecil moved to Minnedosa to start a new chapter in their lives. Due to her health, and stay in hospital they moved to Brandon to be closer to family. Although she was not able to be with Cecil in their new apartment, Cecil was definitely with her every day while in hospital. She made many friends with the staff and patients while in the Brandon Regional Health Centre. She is survived by: her loving husband Cecil, her children and their families; Margaret (Doug) Legg, Kerrie and Michael; Douglas (Kim) Bayes and Corey; Albert (Katherine) Bayes, Kristal and Brooke; Kathy (Doug) Crompton, Ryan and Derek; Sandra (Joe) Kulbacki and Jillian; Neil Bayes; Maxine (Gord) Pascoe; Bev (Randy) Goodman, Nikkie and Sidney; Bruce (Sandra) Bayes, Colton, Jordan and Jessica; Patty Zolinski, Brett and Jason; Darcy (Shannon) Bayes and Logan. Doreen also leaves two sisters and one brother; Lillian Greer, Tresa (Pat) Holt, Cliff (Joyce) Edwards. There are numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Ethel and brother-in-law Alf Black, a brother-in-law, Charlie Greer and son-in-law, Ron Zolinski. She is also survived by Cecil's family: Fred Bayes, Art (Helen) Bayes, Ernie (Doris) Bayes and a sister-in-law, Mary Bayes. She was also predeceased by Cecil's family members; Levi Bayes, Florence Bayes and Ray and Isabelle Bayes. The Ceremony to Celebrate Doreen's Life was held at the Rapid City United Church on Monday, July 7, 2008 with Rev. Lynette Miller officiating.
