SMITH: Donna May Smith passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Saturday, October 6, 2007. Donna was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on August 26, 1955. She was separated from her family at a very young age and lived in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. In her late teens she moved west, living in Brandon till her passing. She attended school in Portage and then continued in Brandon. Donna worked at Canadian Tire, Brandon Community Options and Brandon Community Connections during her lifetime. She was a girl guide, member of the Canadian Association for Community Living Board of directors, chair of the Self-Advocate Advisory committee and member of People First, provincially and nationally. Donna's achievements in life were numerous. She was a very strong and active advocate for vulnerable people. Not only did she lead by example, but she will always be remembered for giving a voice to anyone who needed it in any given situation. Her passion was "equality for all". Donna is survived by her mother Frances; sisters Pam and Gail; brothers Allan, William, Gordon, and Patrick. An aunt Adeline (Ferdinand) and cousin June also survive. Donna was predeceased by her Uncle Frank Zalanski; cousin Terry and her father William Arthur Smith. Honorary Bearers are those all in attendance. Interment will be held at the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Donna may be made to a charity of one's choice.
