Donna is survived by her beloved husband, Don, and their children: Brenda Smith, Heather (Darren) Boak, Blaine (Kiley) Parker, and Garth (Pam) Parker. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Cory (Brittany), Amy (Ryan), Courtney (Adrian), Garrett (Morgan), Tanner (Kelsey), Ty, Jaci, Ashlyn, Brooklyn (Evan), and Jordan (Jaden), and a joyful great-grandmother to Declan, Chase, Atlee, Madi, Rylen, Suri, Taylor, Jaxon, Paisley, Beckham, Ryder, and Brexlee.
She was predeceased by her parents, Darcy and Robena, her in-laws Harold and Maisie Parker, her brother Ron, sisters-in-law Gerry and Vivian, and brothers-in-law Ian and Carl. Donna is lovingly remembered by four brothers, one sister and their spouses, and many special nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Donna was born on March 16, 1941, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to Darcy and Robena Wark. She spent her early childhood in the city before relocating to a farm near Ninga at the age of six. Donna attended Maple Grove and West Lake country schools, and in 1954, her family moved to Killarney, where she completed her education at Killarney Collegiate.
Donna captured the love of her life, Don Parker, in a moment that displayed her sense of fun and spontaneity—by hiding in the back of his car outside a movie theatre. That playful beginning blossomed into a lifelong partnership grounded in deep devotion, laughter, and unwavering love. They married on June 24th, 1961, and shared many memories together. Their main passion was for old-time dance, a joy that carried with them throughout their many years together. They were also passionate card players and seized every opportunity to enjoy a game with their many friends and family.
The heart of her family, Donna lived a life marked by kindness, quiet strength, and deep care for others. Her talents in the kitchen and garden were well known—her vegetable garden was legendary, a summer highlight for all who visited. Donna loved canning and there was always a full pantry for all to enjoy. She also had a remarkable gift for sewing, quilting, knitting, and baking, each project infused with love and care.
Health and wellness were important to Donna. Whether walking through town or cycling—often on her famously well-known bike—she always made time to stay active. Her bike became something of a Killarney icon.
A devoted member of the Killarney United Church, Donna's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was an active volunteer in the church Thrift Shop, served on many committees, and played a key role in organizing the annual fall supper. Her faith, instilled in her family, brought great comfort during her final days.
In her early years, Donna worked as a telephone operator—a job she truly loved and often spoke of with fondness. Her clear voice and calm demeanor made her well-suited to the role, and it was during this time that she developed a deep appreciation for connecting with others. She later worked as a clerk at Sangster's, and eventually found a lasting place at Kerry Drugs, which later became Killarney Pharmacy. It was there that Donna found great joy and purpose, forming lasting friendships with coworkers and customers alike. Her presence was often mentioned and warmly remembered by many who passed through the doors of the pharmacy.
Donna's greatest joy was gathering with loved ones. She cherished holidays and summer evenings filled with food, laughter, music, and bonfires—welcoming not only family but friends, old and new. Donna had a special talent for hosting large family meals that brought everyone together. These gatherings were a cherished tradition, and we could always count on them to create lasting memories.
A Celebration of Donna's Llife will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Memories Chapel in Brandon, with interment to follow. A viewing for family will also be held with date TBD.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Carberry Personal Care Home for their compassionate care in Donna's final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Donna's memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba at 457 9th St Brandon R7A 1K2, or to a charity of your choice.
Donna's love, warmth, and spirit will live on in all who had the blessing of knowing her.
