McLEAN: It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Donald Lionel McLean at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Saturday, August 2, 2008. Don has been freed from his suffering and is now with his Lord and Saviour. He was predeceased by his father Bill McLean; mother Ilyne Marken; brother Stuart McLean and daughter Wendy Anne Meitz. His grandchildren are left to cherish memories: Tyler, Shane, Michael, Nichole, Christina and Amanda; three great-grandchildren: Jessica, David and William. Don and Kay were looking forward to a trip to Cypress for their 50th anniversary. Don spent 29 years in the military, mostly in the RCEME trade. He enjoyed his postings in Whitehorse, Yukon; Moose-Jaw, Saskatchewan; Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta and CFB Shilo, Manitoba. From 1970 to 1972, he was with the Airborne Regiment, while based at CFB Edmonton. Don received the military rank of MWO. He made so many wonderful friends along the way. Don was awarded the White Hat Ceremony from the City of Calgary and McLean Avenue in Garrison Woods, Calgary, was named in his honor. Don was very proud of the start up of a peace keeping association in Brandon named after Pte. Christopher Holopina.
