Obituary

ELSON: Donald Herbert Elson of Brandon passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2003 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Don was born in Estevan, Saskatchewan on October 14, 1925, the son of Sam and Ellen Elson. He was employed with CNR Railroad for 38 years and retired in 1982. Don was a veteran serving in WW II. In 1950, Don and Helena were married and resided in Estevan, Saskatchewan. Due to Don's job with CNR, they moved to Radville, Estevan and then to Brandon. He enjoyed sports, baseball and golf in particular, model trains and gardening. Don was an active member of the Catholic Church, Past Grand-Knight and life long member of Knights of Columbus and past leader of the prayer group at St. Augustine's Parish. He is survived by his wife, Helena; children, David (Linda), Rick (Linda), Susan (Jim) Simmons, Bruce (Nadine), Sam (Caroline) Jeff (Karen), Joanne (Miles) Nickel, and Janette (Deveryn) Ross. Don also leaves his twenty-one grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by, his three sisters and one brother, Audrey Grimes, Arlene (Dale) Wetch, Dorothy Labensky and Blair (Ruth) Elson. He was predeceased by, his parents, Sam and Ellen Elson and two infant brothers. Prayers will be said at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North, on Monday April 21, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, 327-4th Street, on Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. Celebrant will be Fr. Leo Fernandes. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Don to World Vision Canada, P.O. Box 1000, Station Streetsville, Mississauga, ON L5M 9Z9.
