Obituary

FREEBORN: With sadness and loving memories, we announce the peaceful passing of Diana Hazel Freeborn (nee Roden) of Carberry at Hillcrest Personal Care Home, Brandon on Friday, June 9, 2006. Diana was born to Jessie and George Roden on the family farm at Arizona on May 20, 1913. At the age of five she and her family moved to Sidney after the death of her father. After finishing her schooling in Sidney, she worked in the Sidney General Store. She married Clare Freeborn on October 1, 1936. They farmed in the Firdale district until 1946. After a farm accident left Clare unable to farm, they bought the general store and post office at Harte. They retired in 1970 and moved to Brandon in 1978. After spending twelve years in Brandon, they moved back to Spruce Woods Manor in Carberry where they resided until entering Hillcrest Personal Care Home, Brandon in March 2004. Diana was the Post Mistress at Harte and was very involved in the running of the store. She was an active member in the Harte community and enjoyed sewing and knitting for her family. Over the years Diana and Clare enjoyed many memorable camping trips, holidays throughout Canada and card games with friends and family. Diana will be remembered for her wonderful meals at Christmas and other special family gatherings. She had a great sense of humour and would laugh until the tears rolled down her cheeks. Diana leaves to mourn her passing and celebrate her life, her husband of sixty-nine years, Clare; daughters Ramona (Cec) Sparrow and Beverley (George) Ranson. She was a very special grandmother to Gerald (Karen) Sparrow, Trinda (Darren) Sparrow, Kent and Keri Ranson. She also was adored by her 8 great grandchildren: Jennifer, Falynn, Morgan, Jarrett, Brooklyn, Bryce, Ben and Will and 2 great-great-grandchildren Randi and Lexie. She is survived by her sister Blanche Currie and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters Mary Hunter and Nettie Wickware and an infant brother. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date. If friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of Diana to a charity of choice. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com Arrangements are with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
