WINTER: The death of David Peter Winter, of Brandon, occurred on Friday, November 13, 2015 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Born January 8, 1953 in Brandon, David's father was in the military, and the family relocated to various places such as CFB Shilo, Gagetown NB, and Hemer, Germany. During his youth and teenage years , David belonged to the Cubs, Scouts, Army Cadets, and Militia. He was a big fan of classic rock and the blues. He was also an avid fan of hockey, baseball and football. David's favourite teams were the Toronto Maple Leafs, Winnipeg Jets, Brandon Wheat Kings, New York Yankees and Seattle Seahawks. Working at Behlen Industries as a Crane Operator, David was a member of the United Steelworkers of America. He was also a member of the New Democratic Party and was a strong social activist, who cared passionately about improving the lives of the working class and the less fortunate. David's other interests included camping, woodworking and the outdoors. Remaining to cherish David's memory are his sister Lynne Cassels (Iain) and nephew Russell, all of Winnipeg; Aunt Jean Yanda of Brandon and numerous cousins. Also surviving are close friends Brent Chamberlain and Jan Chaboyer of Brandon. He was predeceased by his father Peter Winter, CWO, and mother Tilly Winter. A Come and Go Reception was held at the A.N.A.F. Unit #10 Club Room, 31-14th Street Brandon, on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm with a time of reflection at 2:30 pm. A private interment ceremony took place at the Brandon Cemetery. Urn bearer was Lynne Cassels. A very special and heartfelt thank you to all of the doctors, nurses and caregivers from the fourth floor of the BRHC for their professional and compassionate care given to Dave and support for the family over the past few months during Dave's declining health.
