PRESTON: It is with great sorrow that the family of David Preston announces his death on Tuesday December 24, 2002 at the Virden District Health Centre, Virden Manitoba. David will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Pat, his sons John (Tracy), Jeremy (Rochelle) and the brightest light of his life, his granddaughter Kelsey. Also left to mourn are his brother Gerald (Marcia and family) Preston, mother-in-law Isabelle Clatworthy, brother-in-law Brian Clatworthy (Lynn and family) and Auntie Vera Capon, all of England. His parents Alec and Kate, stepfather Gerry McLaughlin and father-in-law Alf Clatworthy predeceased David. On April 24, 1939, David was born in Plymouth England. At the age of 15, David chose to enter a five-year apprenticeship in blacksmithing so he could be outdoors and work with his hands. After serving in the Somerset-Cornwall Light Infantry of the National Service of England, David started his own welding business call Beacon Forge. In 1977, David sold his business and moved to Canada with Pat, John and Jeremy. They lived in Saskatoon, Port Hardy and Victoria before settling in Oak Lake in 1986. David worked at Glendale Industries in Brandon until he had to retire. His retirement allowed him the time to do the things he loved; gardening flowers and vegetables, yard work and of course golf. David felt the best part of his retirement was that he had more free time to devote to Kelsey. Words alone cannot express our gratitude to Dr. Michelle Coetzee and all the staff at the Virden Hospital for the wonderful care and support they showed David and our family. We would also like to thank all our friends and family for the phone calls, cards and support they provided at this difficult time. Flowers are gratefully declined. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of David to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7. The Ceremony to Celebrate David's Life was held at the Oak Lake United Church on Monday, December 30, 2002. As per David's wish, interment will take place in England. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
We would not wake you to suffer again.
Leaves have fallen time has past,
But memories of you will always last.Memorials
