PENNER: The death of David Penner occurred at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on January 7, 2008. The Funeral Service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 3101 Victoria Avenue, on Friday, January 11, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Edmund Mielke will officiate. PENNER: David Penner of Brandon, beloved husband of Helen, passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Monday, January 7, 2008 at the age of 79 years. Dave was born May 4, 1928 in Altona, Manitoba. He first attended school in Altona, Ste.Anne, and Niverville. He and his family later moved to Saskatchewan by train where he attended school in Dumas. The family then moved to McCreary, Manitoba where some of the family still resides. Dave was employed in various locations in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba to maintain the roads. He worked with Cancade Co., Brandon, for over thirty years as a welder until his retirement. Dave enjoyed travelling extensively in his motor home with his wife Helen. They travelled within Canada and the United States, visiting sites of interest and family. He also enjoyed playing his steel guitar in the Kingsmen Band. Dave and his brother Jake joined the band and played at weddings and socials throughout Manitoba and Saskatchewan. He especially loved his time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dave is survived by his wife Helen; brothers Jake and Henry (Dollie); sister Margaret (George) Golden; stepchildren: Lynne (Dick) Woodsworth, Shirley (Don) MacKenzie, Dan Bachewich and Leslie (Darlene) Bachewich; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Dave was predeceased by his mother Kathleen; father John; brothers Pete and John and a sister Katie. Mr. David Penner of Brandon, beloved husband of Helen, passed away peacefully at the Assiniboine Hospital on Monday, January 7, 2008 at the age of 79 years. Dave was born May 4, 1928 in Altona, Manitoba. He married Helen on July 22, 1978. Dave worked over thirty years with Cancade Co. as a welder until his retirement. During retirement Dave and Helen enjoyed traveling extensively in their motor home within Canada and the United States, visiting sites of interest and family. He especially enjoyed his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dave was a long time member of Grace Lutheran Church, volunteering for various activities such as "meals on wheels". Dave greatly appreciated church member visits to him while he was in the hospital. Dave is survived by his wife Helen; brothers Jake of Brandon and Henry of McCreary; sister Margaret Golden of Arcola, Saskatchewan; four stepchildren; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Memorial donations in memory of Dave may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
