COPPLEMAN: Judge David Coppleman passed away the morning of Sunday, September 8, 2002. David was born and educated in Winnipeg. He graduated from the University of Manitoba Faculty of Law in 1961 and was called to the bar in the same year. He started his practice of law in Russell and continued there for 28 years. In 1975 he began service as a part-time Provincial Court Judge hearing criminal and family cases mainly in Russell, Dauphin and Swan River. In 1990 he was the first to become a Brandon-based Master in the Court of Queen's Bench. Some months later he then became the first to be appointed a Provincial Court Judge under a new nominating procedure designed to make the judiciary more independent. He served in this capacity with distinction until his death. David was President of the Manitoba Chamber of Commerce in 1973-74. David is survived by his beloved and loving wife Anna, nee Tymkiw; by step-mother Blanche (Coppleman) Darrah of Payson, Arizona; by his cousin Bruce Petersen and wife Helen of Thunder Bay, Ontario, and their adult children Barbara, Carey and Tom; by members of Anna's family to which he was devoted: mother-in-law Annie Tymkiw; brother-in-law Eugene Tymkiw and wife Cindy of Salmon Arm, British Columbia, and their adult children Patrick, Joanne, Jeremy, Tara and Lindsay; by brother-in-law Raymond Tymkiw of Souris, and his children Stephanie, Nicholas and Dallas; and by sister-in-law Mary Fitzpatrick and husband Ken of Regina, Saskatchewan. David was predeceased by his father Manuel Coppleman of California and, in February, 2002, by his mother Kay Coppleman of Winnipeg; by his Aunt Grace and Uncle Jimmy Petersen of Winnipeg; by his father-in-law Michael Tymkiw of Foxwarren; and by his brother-in-law Lawrence, who is survived by his wife Joyce and adult son Michael of Chicago, Illinois. The funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 11 at 11:00 a.m. at Memories Chapel, 330 - 18th Street North, Brandon. The service will be led by Pastor George Derksen of Grace Mennonite Church. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. A reception will follow at Memories Chapel. Flowers are appreciated, but if friends so desire, donations may be made to The Brandon General Hospital Foundation, assigned to the Assiniboine Centre, Palliative Care, 150 McTavish Ave East, Brandon, MB, R7A 2B3, or to a charity of their choice.
