Darrell Knight passed away with his loving family by his side at Valleyview Care Home on Thursday, April 17th, 2025.
Darrell was born in Hamiota on July 10th, 1947, the youngest child of Bill and Bertha Knight and younger bother to Sheila and Wayne.
Darrell was raised in Oak River where he attended school. After graduation he started working at the Quick Freeze as a meat cutter. He met his wife Barb Currah in Hamiota and together they moved to Brandon in 1967, where he continued his meat cutting career at Safeway.
Darrell and Barb married January 12th, 1968, and had two children, Travis and Tanya. He switched careers in 1974 and worked for Canada Post for the next 33 years. He loved delivering mail and knew all his customers and their dogs by name. During his time with Canada Post he made long lasting friendships and had many great memoires.
Darrell loved all sports. Much of his time was spent playing baseball, curling, golfing, racket ball and bowling. When he wasn't playing sports, he was coaching his kids as well as ladies' softball. When Darrell's days of playing and coaching came to an end, he then got to enjoy watching his grandchildren play their sports.
During the later years of Darrell's career at the Post Office he started working casual at Lions Manor. After he retired from the Post Office he began working there fulltime. Darrell worked there for 27 years in total and loved every minute. Working at the Lions Manor was more than just a job; Darrell went above and beyond in his role of maintenance man. He cared deeply for all and helped everyone, no matter what, or when.
In 2007 Darrell was diagnosed with Carcinoid Syndrome and was given a short time to live. Darrell's willingness and determination granted him another 17 years with his family. During these years he continued working, spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren grow.
Darrell is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barb; children Travis (Charlotte) and Tanya (Jim) Webb; grandchildren Hunter and Deklan and step grandchildren Nicole, Taylor, Danielle and Carter; adopted grandson Chris; brother and sister-in-law Wayne and Phylis Knight, and many in-laws and their families.
Darrell was predeceased by his parents Bill and Bertha Knight, Sheila and Fred Chinner, Russell and Lola Currah; grandson Jordan and sister-in-law Anne Currah.
A special thank you to Dr. Visser at the Brandon Clinic; Dr. Moller and Dr. Christiansen at CancerCare and all the wonderful staff at Valleyview Care Home that cared for Darrell during his last weeks.
