NISSEN: Daisy Dowan-Nissen of Brandon passed away at the Assiniboine Centre on Wednesday, October 20, 1999. Daisy was born on February 4, 1932 on the Oak River Reserve (now Sioux Valley) and lived in the Westman area all of her life. She is going to be remembered for her sense of humor and for being a practical joker. Daisy was also known for her giving spirit and her compassion and devotion to those who were really in need. She had a very strong sense of right and wrong which was frequently reflected in her honest and rather direct advice. She loved her children and grandchildren with a passion. Daisy will be remembered by the many people, old and young alike, whom she made feel like part of the family. Some knew her only as "Grandma". Daisy spent the last 17 years of her life serving the Lord and this was reflected in all aspects of her life. She will be fondly remembered by the many people she touched throughout her years of dedication working on the church bus ministry, jail ministry, and many prayer lines. Her family takes great comfort in the knowledge that Daisy is now in the presence of her King. Daisy is survived by her sons: Blaine Dowan, Kyle (Lorna) Dowan, and Peter (Dana Austin) Nissen; daughters: Bonnie (Don) Alston and Tamara (Dennis) Drummond; grandchildren: Heidi, Holly, Jacqueline, Sarah, Daniel, Serena, Katrina, Breann, Kurt, Joshua and Matthew. Also surviving are sisters Irene McKay, Kaye Stevenson, and Doris Pratt; brother Roy Dowan; numerous nieces and nephews. Daisy was predeceased by her husband, Kurt Nissen; parents, Demas and Bessie Dowan; 2 brothers and 2 sisters; nephews Garnet McKay and Lindsay McKay; niece Connie Sandy; and brother-in-law Vic Stevenson.
