Obituary

Dagny Charles was born in Minnedosa on May 22, 1923; she lived her whole life in this area and passed away at the Minnedosa Personal Care Home surrounded by her loved ones on September 14, 2002 at the age of 79. Dagny attended Hazelwood School for grades 1-9. In those days it was a privilege to continue your education past grade 9, Dagny instead went to work on dairy farms milking cows. Dagny moved to town and worked as a clerk for "The New Store" and later the "RCA" store. In 1945 Dagny married Gordon Charles and gave up her clerking career to become wife, mother and homemaker. Dagny is survived by her loving husband; Gordon, daughter; Fern Ann and Rick Best of Calgary, AB, son; Wayne and Debby Charles of Minnedosa; their children Dan, James and Corynne, son; Gary Charles of Minnedosa; his children Casey and Rachel, daughter; Elaine and Orest Labiuk of Winnipeg; their children Dustin and Lindsey, daughter; Karen and Jim Stevenson of Brandon; their children Brian, Lisa, Tanya and Christopher, sisters; Dorothy (Gideon) Nelson of Minnedosa and Astrid Treloar of Minnedosa, and sister-in-law;. Jean Carlson of Winnipeg and numerous nieces and nephews. Dagny is predeceased by her parents; Arvid Carlson and Margit Carlson Oman, stepfather; Edwin Oman, brother; Herb Carlson, grandson; Cole Labiuk and brother-in-law; Bill Treloar. Dagny was a very active member of the Minnedosa Covenant Church serving in many capacities such as: Sunday School Secretary Treasurer, C.W. President and Trailblazer leader. Other organizations she was involved in were Edna W.A. and hospital aid. Dagny enjoyed bowling, walking, and curling and attempted golfing and swimming in her later years. Dagny's primary interest was the raising of her children and grandchildren; this was her biggest lifetime achievement. The funeral service was held at Minnedosa Covenant Church on Wednesday, September 18, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dan Pearson officiating. Interment was at the Minnedosa Cemetery, followed with a reception at the Covenant Church.
