Obituary

Clifford Earl Storie, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at the Assiniboine Centre on Friday, March 30, 2001. Cliff was born on May 14, 1923 at the family home on Storie Road in Old Kildonan, Winnipeg, Manitoba, the sixth child of Thomas and Ruby Storie. He attended John Black School and Centennial Collegiate in Kildonan. Cliff is survived by his wife Iris of nearly 55 years (nee Young of Greenway, Manitoba); his children and grandchildren: Ken (Bev) and sons Jonah and Geoff; Jerry (Betty) and children Lindsay and Ben; Donna (Dave August) and children Pamela, Paul and great granddaughter Iesha; Grant (Carol) and children Dale and Tara; Tim (Debbie) and children Nicole, Angela and Natasha and his sister Hazel Storie and brother Frank Storie. He was predeceased by sisters Irene Metcalf and Ruby Lockrye and brother Campbell Storie. Cliff served in the Canadian Armed Forces (Signal Corp) for four years during World War II. After his return from overseas he met and married Iris. He worked for Christie's Biscuits until 1955 when the family relocated to a farm near Baldur. The family farm was where Cliff and Iris raised their five children. Even after the children left home, the farm was the site of numerous family gatherings which in turn provided countless treasured memories. In addition to farming, Cliff drove a school bus for Tiger Hills School Division for twenty years, retiring in 1988. Cliff loved gardening, he took a special interest and pride in raising and preserving vegetables and in experimenting with various methods and crops. He also loved to bake, cook and entertain guests over a good meal. Cliff and Iris retired to Brandon in 1992. In his later years the major interest in Cliff's life was his work with the Masonic Order. He belonged to most of the concordant bodies of Masonry and he enjoyed the Order of the Eastern Star and became the Worthy Grand Patron in 1998/1999. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the charity of your choice. Funeral services were held at Memories Chapel in Brandon and he was laid to rest at Brandon Cemetery on April 2.
