PHILLIPS: Clarence "Mick" the Lord called him Home and his prayers were answered at Minnedosa District Hospital on February 17, 2006; following a brief illness. He was born on April 19, 1914 at the family farm in the Glanton District, to parents Tom and Lily Phillips; he was the youngest of their five children. Predeceased by his devoted wife Marj of 61 years, in November 2003, newborn daughter Colleen in 1950, and newborn son Garth in 1951, all his siblings and their spouses, except Mae in Winnipeg, wife of his brother Norman Phillips. Mick is survived by his son Gregg, and his daughter-in-law Karen and his grandchildren Matt, Mark and Mlee of Forrest, and his daughter Greta of Brandon. Mick treasured his family and his community most, knowing that the two were vital to each other. He strove to make his community a warm and inviting place. He supported his community; rarely did he ever miss any event whether it was a picnic, ball game, bonspiel, or suppers at the rink. He served on many boards, including Manitoba Pool, Glanton School Board, Forrest Community Rink and Glanton Community Club. Mick and Marj volunteered at Austin Thresherman's Reunion for about a decade, they were always anxious to get there each August, to meet with their friends and have an opportunity to meet some new ones. Mick and Marj welcomed new families and individuals into their community and into their home. Family and friends would gather at their home for a visit, or stay a day or two, or weeks or months at a time. They loved children, and babysat for many families in the community. He helped Santa numerous years by dressing up and visiting at Fairview to bring a smile to the residents. He had an incredible ability to visit with anyone. We are sure everyone who knew him will remember the way his eyes would light up, his eyebrows raise and his jaw dropped to form a perfect "O" as he listened to and took genuine interest in your tale. His interest in your life left you feeling important. Children, and people of every age would gravitate to him because of his friendly, kind manner, and his sunny disposition. Mick and Marj loved to dance; they followed their daughters' band "Flip Side" all over the countryside. They loved to watch all the sporting and other activities that their children and grandchildren were involved in. We cherish the time we had with Mick, we remember his gold-toothed grin, his rich laughter, and his generous nature. He loved flowers, but his favourite were gladiolus. When planting potatoes each spring he'd always plant an extra row "just in case". How he'd watch his apple trees bloom, and grow wonderful fruit, then he'd be so happy to give the apples away to friends. He loved all his animals, working horses, his cattle and his house pets. His love of music was evident as we always heard him happily whistling. Mick lived almost his entire life in the Glanton District, leaving only for a short time as a child to live in Brandon with his parents due to his mother's poor health. Like his father before him, Mick spent most of his life working the land. He loved farming and all the aspects associated with farming. When he was laid to rest February 22, 2006, at Humesville Cemetery, soil from NW 17-12-18 and NW 19-12-18 was placed in the grave with him. Pallbearers were grandsons, Matt and Mark; Jim and Jack Miller; Jim Boyd and Dan Kowbel. Anyone who wishes to make a charitable
donation in memory of Mick, may do so to the Humesville Cemetery, c/o 9 Redwing Bay, Brandon, Manitoba, R7C 1E1 or a charity of choice.Memorials
