Charles Alfred Wells, beloved husband of Beatrice of Brandon, passed away peacefully Friday, June 15, 2001 at the Assiniboine Centre. Charlie was born on November 11, 1912 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Alfred and Alice Wells. He was the third child of five children. Charlie was raised and educated in Brandon and attended Alexander School. He had a special love for sports and excelled in them. As a young man Charlie had several jobs, but the one he had fond memories of was at Jewsbury's Grocery Store. Charlie married Beatrice Ardron on October 9, 1937 and they moved to Rapid City, Manitoba where they farmed for six years before they moved to Fleming, Saskatchewan where they continued to farm for 26 years. In this union they had two sons, Barry Charles who pre-deceased them in infancy, and Ernest Alfred. In 1973 they retired and moved to Brandon, Manitoba, spending their summers in Brandon and winters in Weslaco, Texas. During their winters they made many lasting friendships. Charlie was a member of the Fleming United Church and served on the board of stewards. He was a member of the L.O.L. #2143 for 40 years and was the Grand Master of Manitoba 1968 - 1969. He was a great sports enthusiast. Charlie loved to barrel jump, speed skate, play ball, hockey, fish and shuffle. He was one of the organizers to start Senior Shuffling at the Riverview Curling Club in Brandon. We will all miss his many jokes and stories. Charlie was pre-deceased by his parents, Alfred and Alice; brother, Ed; sisters, Betty, Ethel and Elsie; and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. He is survived by his wife, Beatrice of 64 years; and son, Ernest (Faye) of Moosomin, Saskatchewan; grandchildren, and great grandchildren, Brad (Jackie), Kyle and Taylor of Brandon; Bryan (Jenny), Ashley, Charlie and Logan of Wichita, Kansas; Melanie (Stuart), Goranson and Thomas of Weyburn, Saskatchewan; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. In accordance with Charlie's wishes, cremation has taken place and no service will be held. Dad will await Mom until such time as they can be joined for eternity. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Charlie may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association #8, 940 Princess Avenue, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 0P6 or to a charity of choice.
