The death of Charles Everett Gero, of Sprucewoods, beloved husband, father and grandfather, occurred at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Wednesday, July 16, 2003. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Friday (tonight) July 18, 2003 from 7:00 pm. to 9:00 pm. The Ceremony of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Shilo Chapel, C.F.B. Shilo on Saturday, July 19, 2003 at 1:30 pm. Celebrant will be Fr. James Bekkema. Interment will follow in the Veterans Section of the Brandon Cemetery. GERO: Charles Everett Gero, 68, passed away July 16, 2003 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Charles was born in Mulgrave, Nova Scotia, August 31, 1934. Charles left Mulgrave in 1951 to join the Canadian Armed Forces where he spent thirty-seven years serving his country at postings in CFB Gagetown, New Brunswick, RSS Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and at CFB Shilo. He also served his country in the Korean War and served a term of peacekeeping in Cyprus. Charles was an active member of the Korean Veterans Association of Canada and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion #3 in Brandon. He loved to golf and play darts and cards with his many friends. While at CFB Gagetown , New Brunswick, Charles was very well known for his involvement in coaching and umpiring Minor League baseball. He received recognition for coaching his team to a provincial championship. Charles is survived by his wife Grace, daughter Merleen of Toronto, Ontario; son, Peter of Halifax, Nova Scotia; son, Walter and wife Kim; son. Jeff and wife Karen of Brandon; daughter Pat of Edmonton, Alberta; son, John and wife Melanie of Brandon; and sisters Leona (Rosalind, Camille) Elizabeth (Jackie) and Rita (Brenda) all of Toronto, Ontario. Also lovingly remembered by twelve grandchildren, Curtis, Connie, Curtis, Michael, Megan, Kellen, Amanda, Shanna, Matthew, Mark, Adam, Amy and three great grandchildren, Denver, Matthew, and RJ. Charles was predeceased by: his parents Agnes Izzard and Everett Gero, his brothers James, Ernest, and Joseph and his nephew Lonnie. The Ceremony of Christian Burial was celebrated at Our Lady of Shilo Chapel, C.F.B. Shilo on Saturday, July 19, 2003. Celebrant was Fr. James Bekkema. Urn Bearers were Joe MacLellan, Stan Jones and Roy Pierunek. Interment followed in the veterans' section of the Brandon cemetery.
