Obituary

The death of Charles Baron, beloved husband of Anne and dear father of Sister Patricia, Jo-Anne and Jeanette, occurred peacefully in the tender embrace of his wife, at his residence, Fairview Home, on Sunday, February 3, 2002. Charlie was born in Brandon on May 15, 1920. He worked for McGavin's Bakery for twelve years, then for Canada Post for twenty-nine years, retiring in 1981. He was instrumental in creating the Brandon Civil Servants Credit Union for seventeen years. He vastly enjoyed meeting with the members of the Credit Union and everyone left as a friend. Charlie was a family man, an avid gardener and enjoyed many summers fishing with his family. He loved cooking, dancing and planning family reunions. He spent the last five and a half years in Fairview Personal Care Home after suffering the complications of diabetes. The family would like to acknowledge the staff at Fairview for their wonderful care of Charlie over the years. He will be lovingly remembered by Anne, his wife of sixty years, his daughters, Sister Patricia Baron, moose Jaw, SK, Jo-Anne (Dale) Westman, St. Andrews, MB, Jeanette (Ron) Ediger, Brandon and his granddaughters Lisa Ediger, Jennifer and Jaclyn Westman. He is also survived by his brother Joseph (Noreen) Baron, London, ON, sisters, Carol Frankovich, London, ON and Helen (Chris) Yavis, Oromocto, NB and his many nieces and nephews. Charlie was predeceased by his sister Mary. Prayers will be said at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church on Friday, February 8, 2002 at 7:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Augustine's Church on Saturday, February 9, 2002 at 1:30 pm. Father Kevin Smith will officiate. Pallbearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus. Interment will follow in the Brandon Cemetery. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Charlie to the Canadian Diabetes Association, B727-10th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 4G7 or to a charity of choice.
