Obituary

HANSON: After a courageous battle with cancer it is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Carol Hanson on January 12, 2007, at age 65. Carol will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 45 years Neil; children Corinne Teetaert (Jim), Irene Fawcett (Kim), Ron (Jill); grandchildren Jamie, Amie, and Kaitlyn, and brother Tree Ellams. Carol was predeceased by her father Edward Ellams, and her mother Verna Ellams (2004). She will also be fondly remembered by many other relatives and friends. Mom was born on November 23, 1941 at Brandon General Hospital and stayed in Brandon her entire life. She married Neil in June of 1961 and together they raised three children. Mom was a dedicated wife and mother who devoted her life to her family. She was a stay at home Mom who preferred the simple things in life. We have to cherish many great memories of our childhood with Mom whether it was a simple outing on the city bus to shop, family fishing trips, or the many great summers at the cabin at Clear Lake. Mom was well known in the cook shack for making sure we were all well fed, in particular Ron, and also for using the "purple worm" to always catch the biggest fish, much to our Dad's chagrin. She was a dedicated hockey Mom who rarely missed a game and could always be counted on for the loudest cheer! Later on as her family grew, she became a busy Grandma who attended as many hockey, soccer, baseball, volleyball, dancing, and music events as possible. But with an empty nest, Mom had to fill her days and she enjoyed her many years working at Wal-Mart in the receiving department. She loved to be in the know, whether it be with her family, friends, neighbors, or co-workers. She was a ferocious reader and rarely missed a good "yard" sale. Although diagnosed with cancer 16 months ago and no longer able to work, Mom rarely complained of the many chemo treatments and did her best to maintain a regular schedule. We were fortunate to be able to celebrate several holidays and milestone birthdays together during this period. Up until very recently Mom would get together with friends for coffee twice daily. The Ceremony to Celebrate Carol's Life will be held on Wednesday, January 17 at 1:00 p.m. at Memories Chapel, 330 18th Street North, Brandon. We would like to express our sincere thanks to all the doctors and nurses at BRHA and CancerCare Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carol's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3B 0V9 or to a charity of your choice. Mom we will miss your wit, your laughter, and your love. Thank you and we love you. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements are with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 204-727-0330.
