Obituary

BOMFORD: With great sorrow we announce the sudden passing of Carol Ann Bomford (nee Smith) on Monday, April 30, 2007 at her home. Carol is survived by her two children, Kerry (Dale) McConnell and Marci (Dale) Vreeman; her two brothers, Denny (Norma) Smith and Gerry Smith; grandchildren: Maria, Will, and Claudia; nephews Cory (Kelly) Smith, Robbie Smith, and niece Sheri (Bruce) Loranger. Carol was predeceased by her mother Jean Scott (2002); father Gordon Smith (1963), and her nephew Mark Smith (1995). Carol was born March 18, 1944 to Gordon and Jean Smith in Hamiota, Manitoba. She was coined a "delight" by those who knew her in her youth; full of life, beautiful, athletic, and the apple of her father's eye. After school she received her degree in Registered Nursing and married Jim Bomford in 1965. After their marriage, Carol and Jim moved to Pinawa to live and work. While in Pinawa from September 1965 until September of 1967, Carol nursed part time in the Pinawa hospital. At that time they moved to Winnipeg where Carol supported them full time nursing at the Misericordia Hospital while Jim attended graduate school. In May of 1969, while pregnant with their daughter Kerry, they relocated to Calgary. Carol chose to become a stay at home mom where she took great pride and passion in creating a wonderful home and caring for her husband and two daughters. She ran her household with a quiet grace, rarely raising her voice or showing frustration. She dedicated herself to her daughters, attending every baseball and basketball game and supporting the decisions and choices they made. Carol loved the summers spent camping with friends in the Okanagan, and especially loved beating the men in a game of cards. She loved to dance and you could always find her tapping her toes to a good tune. In 1982, Carol and Jim returned to their roots to live and work in Brandon and farm near Hamiota. Carol was a source of support at all times; working on the farm, volunteering at the Brandon General Hospital, and caring for her mother during her last years of life. She was creative, loving, kind, giving, an excellent mother, wife, daughter, sister, grandmother and friend. Carol brightened many days for all who knew her and she was always eager for a chat and a cup of coffee. In later years, she spent her time gardening, taking in stray cats and spoiling them, and as a student of the many creatures of nature. Carol was fortunate to become a grandmother three times and her eyes twinkled as she watched her grandchildren play and grow. For many years Carol battled steadfastly with Crohn's disease and recently with cancer, and through it all she never complained. We will miss her smile and her eyes that said so much, what we wouldn't give for one more day with her. Thank-you to all who made her day a bit brighter, to Sis for being her rock, and to the doctors and staff that cared for her. A memorial service is being held Saturday, May 5, 2007 at the home of Kerry and Dale McConnell with a eulogy from Lillian Glenn. Cremation has taken place and interment will be held at the Hamiota Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada, Box 21047, Brandon, Manitoba, R7B 3W8 or to the Canadian Cancer Society-Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 9Z9. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.

Rest in Peace mom, it's all right?est.
