Obituary

Carman Frederick Rust passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 7, 2001 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Elaine (nee Fraser) and his children; Linda (Perry; Averyl, Fraser, Alexa) Shindruk of Lynden, Washington, Len (Brenda; Lindsay, Beth) of Brandon and Gordon (Christy; Tori, Matthew) of Brandon. Also surviving are his sister; Marion Juckes of Regina and mother-in-law Ruth Fraser of Brandon. Carman was born and raised in Brandon. He attended Brandon College, where he made many life long friends, and met his future wife, Elaine Fraser from Basswood. Carman graduated in 1959 and he and Elaine were married on December 21 of that year. After receiving his degree in Chartered Accounting in 1964, Carman worked over the years for Donovan Stone, Dunwoody, and Brandon University as comptroller. He retired in 1996, after several years as business manager at Brandon Mental Health Centre. Carman was very active in the community over the years, serving as president of Brandon Minor Hockey Association and the Wheat City Curling Club. He was president of the Brandon Kinsmen Club in 1969 and later of K40. He was very proud to have been made a life member of the Kinsmen Club after many years of involvement. He was also heavily involved in the 1979 Canada Winter Games, The Wasagaming Mens Golf Club and Clear Lake Cottage Owners Association, and was a proud member of the 26th Field Regiment in his early days. Carman's favourite times were spent with his family on the lake or the golf course at Clear Lake, or "puttering around" the yard at the cottage or at home. He cherished many good memories of the Tamarack Golf Tournament and many Kinsmen functions with his friends. In his later years he took great pride and pleasure in seeing his children and his grandchildren enjoy themselves at the cottage and at home in Brandon. The Ceremony to Celebrate Carman's Life will be held at Memories Chapel, 330 - 18th Street North, on Saturday, February 10, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. A private interment service will follow at the Brandon Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Carman may be made to the Brandon General Hospital Foundation, Respiratory Equipment, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 2B3.
