ROHLFS: It is with deep sadness the family announces the passing of Carl Ernest "Tonto" Rohlfs at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at the age of 82 years. Carl was born in Brandon, the youngest of five children to Harry and Annie Rohlfs. He was a mischievous child and participated in many pranks. On May 6, 1942 he joined the Navy and was stationed in the Pacific on the minesweeper, HMCS Quatsino, until October 22, 1945 with the rank of Able Seaman. After the war, he returned to Brandon and partnered with his brother Fred and established ACE Taxi. Carl was employed with the Province of Manitoba as a painter with the Brandon Mental Health Centre for over 35 years. Always the handyman, he built the family home on First Street and years later helped with construction of his daughter's home. He was a very generous man, always willing to help other people. He and his wife Mary loved to travel and visited such places as Hawaii, Europe, Disneyland, Mexico, Florida, and Las Vegas. Roller-skating was Carl's passion-he just loved it. He could be found seven days a week at "Wheelies", where he enjoyed skating to the music and socializing with his many friends. After retirement, Carl spent endless hours on his computer playing games, sending emails and tinkering with the photos he had just taken. He also enjoyed going for coffee with his buddies at McDonalds. As his health declined, he looked forward to going for car rides with family, listening to his vast collection of audio books and spending time with his pets. Carl was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 20 years and loved to reminisce about the past and could entertain listeners for hours about his exploits. Carl is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Mary; son Richard and daughter Laura (Glenn). Also left to mourn are numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; sisters Gladys, Dora, and Muriel (Moodie); brother Fred and one nephew Harry. The Funeral Ceremony was held at Memories Chapel on Monday, January 22, 2007. The Rev. James Brown officiated. Interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Carl may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association - Westman Region, B - 727 10th Street, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 4G7 or to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200 17th Street East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 7M6. Beautiful memories, silently kept,
Of a wonderful husband I'll never forget"
"Please God, forgive a silent tear,
A fervent wish our dad was here.
There are others, yes, we know,
But he was ours, we loved him so."Memorials
