ELDER: Calvin William Elder passed away peacefully, at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, with family at his side on Tuesday, February 17, 2004. Calvin was born on January 4, 1937 in Swan Lake, Manitoba, the son of Nellie Poirer and George Elder, both have predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his wife, Geraldine; brothers, Lloyd and John (Jack) Elder. Calvin is survived by: his sister, Doreen (Bob) Isleifson of Brandon; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Elder of Brandon and Betty Elder of Canora, SK; sons Kevin (Jane) of Kamloops, BC, Brian of Winnipeg; daughters, Linda (Vern) Thorne of Brandon, Lenette Lavallee of Calgary, AB; grandchildren, Morgan, Crystal, David, Allyssa and Zaineb. There are numerous nieces and nephews all of whom he was very close to. He also had many "adopted" kids who called him "Pops". They were all special to him. Calvin grew up and went to school in the Holland-Treherne area. During his life, Calvin worked as a farmhand for many local farmers. He was a hard worker and he enjoyed being in the fields, working 16 hour days or sometimes longer. He really missed it in later years. While living in The Pas, he owned and operated Fortooz Cab. Most of his customers knew him as "Relic" a name he protested but could not shake. When his health became poor and he could no longer work, he became a storyteller. He loved to tell stories of days gone by especially when he had an attentive audience. He could also be a clown, his kids called him "the man of a thousand faces", he loved to make people laugh. Calvin's love and devotion for his children and family was unconditional. We will miss his encouragement, love, his humour and his dedication. The Funeral Service will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street, on Monday, February 23, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Mike Davis of Bethel Christian Assembly will officiate.
