Obituary

Bruce Terance Fraser, beloved husband of Macky, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2001 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. Bruce was born July 24, 1931 to Norman and Wilma Fraser in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Bruce attended school in Winnipeg, and received his Masters in social work at the University of Manitoba. He was employed for a short time in Fort Frances, Ontario, then in Winnipeg as a supervisor with the Children's Aid Society. Bruce married Macky (Margaret) Marsh of Fort Frances, Ontario, in 1959. In 1963 they moved to Portage la Prairie to the position of Executive Director of the Children's Aid Society for Central Manitoba. Together Bruce and Macky raised six children. In 1976 they moved to Brandon, where he became Executive Director of the Children's Aid Society for Western Manitoba, currently known as Child and Family Services of Western Manitoba. Bruce was involved in the Rotary Club of Portage la Prairie and the Wheat City Lions Club of Brandon, minor hockey and baseball, actively involved with children, as well as many other organizations. He enjoyed spending time at the cottage at Delta, and especially enjoyed sailing. He taught each grandchild to raise the Canadian flag, "Grandpa's Flag". Bruce is survived by his wife, Macky; children, Janet Fraser and husband Glen Kruck, grandchildren, Heidi and Adam Fraser-Kruck of Brandon; Jane and husband Don MacDonald, grandchildren, Tylor, Travis and Tanner MacDonald of Calgary; Ian and wife Wendy Fraser of Brandon; Jean and husband Ryan McDonald, grandchildren, Scott, Maeghan and Brooke McDonald of Brookdale; Hugh and wife Bev Fraser, grandchildren, Alyssa and Sarah Fraser of Douglas; and Donald Fraser. Also surviving are his mother, Wilma Fraser of Winnipeg; sisters, Dale Drysdale; Heather Freemont; and Lee Martin; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bruce was predeceased by his father, Norman Fraser. The Ceremony to Celebrate Bruce's Life was held at Memories Chapel on Saturday, February 24, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. Darrel Thiessen officiated, assisted by Jim MacDonald and John Chudzik. Piper was Doug Storey of Grandview. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Bruce may be made to the Sun Fund for Kids, 501 Rosser Avenue, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 0K4.
