Obituary

BRAATEN: Bruce Kenneth, died unexpectedly on July 3, 2008 at St. Boniface General Hospital, Winnipeg, Manitoba. He leaves to mourn his passing: his bride of fifty years ,Patricia; only daughter, Tracey Braaten-Pugliese (Philip) and their son Dominick. His only surviving son Patrick Braaten (Doreen) and their children Ty, Sydney, and Joe. He also leaves his little sister and only surviving sibling Carol Toth (Ernie) and sister-in-law Sylvia Kallis (Wayne). He also leaves to mourn his many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. Bruce was predeceased by his two sons Errol Kenneth and Jeffery Stewart; parents Harold and Mary Braaten of Moose Jaw; two brothers Clarence (Doris) and Gerald; sisters-in-law Erla Shanks (Lloyd) and Mary Lou Minshull and mother and father-in-law, Erroll and Eva Cuthbert. Bruce was born September 30, 1941 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. He attended University of Saskatchewan and graduated with distinction from the faculty of Mechanical Engineering in 1955. His career began with Schlumberger in Oxbow, Saskatchewan, which then led him to a job with Dow Chemical in Sarnia, Ontario in 1959. Bruce then moved to Brandon to a job at Dryden Chemicals in 1967. His last years of his career were spent at McKenzies Seeds until his retirement. Bruce loved to build and embarked on the project of building a retirement home in the country. Bruce enjoyed country living. He took long walks in the pasture, hunting for gophers and most of all, riding his Fordson Tractor. Bruce was quite the fisherman., he had many stories to tell. The Funeral Service was held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, on Tuesday, July 8, 2008. Pastor Ted Jannuska officiated. Pallbearers were Ken Robinson, Ken Hardy, Kevin Rubeniuk, Scott McFayden, Wayne Tegg and Ken Campbell. Interment followed in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens where Bruce was laid to rest beside his two sons. Donations in memory of Bruce may be made to a charity of one's choice. Patricia, Tracey and Patrick would like to thank Dr. Pascoe and his colleagues, who worked so hard to try to save Bruce's life. We would like to send our deepest thanks to Pastor Ted Jannuska and his family. Our love to Bill and Arlene Brice. Thank you to Craig and Vern at Memories Chapel for their services. Thank you, family and friends for being there for us. We are so grateful and feel truly blessed for the many caring thoughts expressed verbally or by the thoughtful cards.
