Obituary

WINTER: Bridget Winter of Brandon passed away peacefully December 30, 1999 at the age of 89 in her home at Central Park Lodge. Bridget was born in Coolquill Castle, County, Tipperary, Republic of Ireland on September 12, 1910. She was raised at Coalsfarm, Cuffesgrange, County, Kilkenny. In 1946, Bridget came to Canada as an Irish War Bride after marrying W.E. Winter. They settled in Tugaske, Saskatchewan from 1946 to 1948 then moved to Flin Flon, Manitoba from 1949 to 1971. In 1971, she moved and made her home in Brandon until her passing. Bridget belonged to the Order Royal Purple of Flin Flon since 1965. She enjoyed collecting ornaments, caring for her house plants and travelling. Her greatest enjoyment was time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandson. Bridget is predeceased by her parents Thomas and Kathryn Barden; siblings: John, James, Patrick, Richard and sister Lizzie. She is survived and will be lovingly missed by her daughter Pat (Vic) Kaus, granddaughter Bridget Porterfield (great-grandson Nicholas), grandsons Richard Porterfield and Daryl Kaus; son Richard (Jo) Winter of Cochrane, Alberta, granddaughter Lisa Marie Winter of Winnipeg; and son Edward Barden-O'Brien of Lacombe, Alberta; brothers Joseph Barden from the Republic of Ireland and Thomas (Betty) O'Brien-Barden of North Wales, U.K.. Numerous nieces and nephews in the Republic of Ireland also survive. The family ceremony in honour of Bridget's life was held at Memories Chapel on Wednesday, January 5, 2000. Janette Vanheyst officiated. Interment will take place at a later date in Ireland. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Bridget may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 203 - 42 McTavish Ave. E., Brandon, R7A 2B2.
