Obituary

CALDWELL: The death of Brandon Curtis Caldwell, beloved son of Michele and brother of Justin, occurred on Thursday, December 23, 2004 at the Health Science Centre, Winnipeg. Brandon was born on June 10, 1988 in Brandon, Manitoba. At the age of 9 months, he was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Brandon attended school at New Era School until grade six, King George School for seven and eight, and grades nine, ten and half of eleven at Neelin High School. He was always a good student, and truly enjoyed enriching his mind. In grade eight he was on the Honour Roll, grade nine found him on the Spartan Honour Society and on the Student Council. He received a certificate of Merit for Math and an Academic Award for Social Studies and Science. He had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and a tenacious manner that lead to many debates, which he loved. Brandon lived and loved life to the fullest, and thrived in the relationship he had with his mother, Michele and brother Justin. Brandon enjoyed watching his brother and friends playing video games and on the computer, as well as watching movies with his family and friends. Brandon taught all who knew him the meaning of courage in the face of adversity, to be thankful and take comfort in the simple things. How to face roadblocks diligently, boldly jump over obstacles, and face challenges energetically. Through all this he always remembered to laugh. Brandon will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Michele; brother, Justin; father, Wayne; grandparents, Marc and Mary Vinck, Fred Wright, Rand and Ruby Hrabok; Godmother and great aunt, Irene Winter; aunts, Tracy, Tammy and Jackie; uncle Guy; great grandparents, Martha Mathews and Clarence Wright; and many great aunts and uncles, as well as cousins. He was predeceased by his uncle, Dan Caldwell; great grandparents, Lawrence Mathews and Helen Wright. The Funeral Ceremony was held at Memories Chapel on Friday December 31, 2004. Rev. Deacon John MacKenzie of St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church officiated. Interment followed in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Donations in memory of Brandon may be made to the Children's Hospital P.S.C.U. Health Science Centre, 820 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3A 1R9.
