Beverly Lauriane Horn (nee Kelly) passed away peacefully on May 7th, 2011 with her children by her side in Brandon. She was born March 20th, 1954 to Howard and Doris Kelly in Erickson, Manitoba. Being the youngest of nine siblings; Bev grew up in a home full of love. She lived in Crawford Park on the family farm and attended school at Rolling River School Division. At age 13 she moved with her family to Onanole, Clear Lake. As a child Bev was very active and a talented athlete. She was a lovable, redheaded, wiry, little freckle faced girl full of wonder, imagination and passion for life. At the age of 31 she became a loving and devoted Mother with the birth of her Daughter, Danielle in 1984 and then her Son, Cody in 1989 .She moved to Brandon as a single Mother and overcame many difficult barriers. She received her diploma in Secretarial Studies in 1997 from Cambrian College. Bev started getting involved in cultural activities at the MMF. She was asked to take over the role as Youth Coordinator, which she did and she certainly was able to connect with her young group. Over the next few years Bev took on the role as Coordinator in the MMF's Team Hope program. These were multi-barriered youth and this is where Bev got to use her skills. She had an ability to get people to open up to her and then she worked her magic. Over 60 young people, many of them successful today, were privileged to feel her all-encompassing support. Bev then spent some time over at Westbran and then decided she wanted to move in to the counseling field. She went on to receive her diploma in Applied Counselling Skills from ACC in 2007. She started working at Metis Child and Family Services and then was asked to come back to the MMF as Community Liason Worker in 2008. She didn't hesitate , as this was the kind of work that Bev had always wanted to do, to help people. Bev was a talented writer and enjoyed writing poetry, stories and journaling. She enjoyed music, dancing, concerts, reading, learning, crafts, and cooking. She loved to laugh and spend time with family, friends and her loyal companion Tugger. She appreciated nature and loved sitting around a fire, spending time at the lake and walks by the river. She found joy in picking wild flowers, berries, stones and many other treasures that Mother Earth provided her. She was very spiritual and had a strong connection with her creator. Bev's life may seem too short to many; but those close to her understand that the quality of existence far exceeds quantity. She truly was a free spirit who loved fiercely and lived with an open heart. Her smile, laugh, compassion and wisdom brought so much peace and joy to those around her. She was an earth angel that has been granted her wings. During her final days surrounded by many family members and friends that she had touched in her memorable life; she always reminded us of the Joie De Vive (the joy of life). Bev was survived by her Daughter, Danielle Kelly; Son, Cody Horn; Brothers: Keith & Laureen Kelly; Ken Kelly; Harve Kelly; George Kelly; Barry Kelly and Sister, Marg Carey. She was predeceased by her Brother, Les Kelly; Sister, Marlene Grant and Sister in Law, Vivian Kelly.
