Obituary

The family wishes to announce the passing of Bernard "Bernie" Lane of Brandon, MB on Thursday, December 16, 2021.

Bernard was born on January 14, 1927 to Ivon and Lottie Lane. He was the youngest brother of Katherine "Violet" McFarlane, John "Jack" Lane, Margaret Girling, and Agnes "Rose" Tomlinson. He spent his entire childhood and working years living and farming the family farmland north of Clanwilliam, MB.

He enjoyed sharing a joke and laugh with everyone. While Kathy and Audrey were growing up he loved playing an April Fools Day joke on them ... he managed to fool them into looking for a non-existent robin over and over again in their younger years.

Bernie loved to dance. He square danced for many years with his first wife Phyllis. Later he started dancing in Brandon, MB and quickly began offering rides to his soon-to-be wife Evangeline and her girlfriends. Over the years Bernard and Evangeline travelled throughout the countryside and into the States to participate in an evening or two of dancing. They were also active members of the Song Birds Choir and performed at various locations around Brandon. He enjoyed playing slow-pitch baseball, and spent many years golfing with Evangeline, his daughter Kathy and her family. In his early 90's Bernard and Kathy enjoyed several rounds together during one of her last visits home. Bernard enjoyed family get togethers and had lots of great conversations. On the quieter side he enjoyed reading and playing cards with family and friends.

Bernard leaves behind his wife Evangeline of 19 years; daughter Kathy Pearson; grandson Jonathon Pearson (Adrienne Palmer); granddaughter Candace Pearson (Mike Grant); stepson Larry Jackson (Karen); stepdaughter Darlene McNabb (Charlie); stepdaughter Cheryl Grant (Mike); 6 step grandchildren and 9 step great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his first wife Phyllis and his daughter Audrey Lane.

A private family gathering will be arranged at a future date.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Lung Association, Canadian Cancer Society or charity of one's choice.
