GOULSBRA: Beatrice "Bea" Goulsbra, beloved wife of the late Bud and dear mother of Bruce and Cindy, passed away peacefully, with her family at her side, Saturday, November 1, 2003 at Fairview Home, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Bea was the youngest of eight children born to Alvin Hill and Ella (McManes) Hill, on January 26, 1924. She was raised in Alexander, where her family operated the telephone office, where everyone took their turn on the switchboard. Bea moved to Winnipeg in 1942 and worked as a stenographer at the Fort Osborne Barracks. It was there that she met Bud Goulsbra, who was in the Corps of Engineers. They were married in 1958. In 1960, they returned to Alexander, where they raised their family and lived until they both moved to Fairview Home in the fall of 1997. Bea was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and an avid sports enthusiast. She enjoyed football (in particular the Winnipeg Blue Bombers) and the baseball that she played for many years in Winnipeg. Additionally, she could often be seen in town riding her bike or out walking. For a number of years, Bea was a member of the Alexander UCW, the Ladies Curling Club and in later years, the Whitehead Seniors Club. Bea had a great sense of humor and managed to retain her gentle smile and easy laugh even while afflicted with Alzheimer's. She continued to be courageous and selfless during her illness as she had been all her life. Bea leaves to mourn; her son Bruce (Adele) Goulsbra of Winnipeg and daughter Cindy (Bob) Izzard of Alexander as well as grandchildren; David (Roberta), Ryan (Charlene), Lauren and Bryden, Courtney and Adam. There are two sisters, Jean (Jack) Parks, Madge (Lloyd) Gamley and one sister-in-law, Phyllis Hill as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bea was predeceased by her husband Bud Goulsbra, parents, Alvin and Ella Hill, sisters, Marjorie, Evelyn, Bertha, Helen and brother, Jack. A private family graveside service was held at the Alexander Cemetery prior to the memorial service at the Alexander United Church on Wednesday, November 5, 2003. The Rev. John Nesbitt officiated. Urn Brarer was her grandson, Bryden Izzard. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Bea may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba, Westman Region, 437-9th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 4A9. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
