BARRY KEVIN STANLEY

November 4, 1966 – September 10, 2026

It is with the heaviest of hearts and deepest sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Barry Kevin (BK) Stanley on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at the age of 59.

Barry will be forever loved and missed by his wife of 37 years, Barb, children Jenna (Spen),Cole and Brock (Kendra), parents Raymond and Alberta Stanley, sisters Denise and Diana (Jason), his Father/Mother-in-law Joe and Eleanor Phillips, sister-in-law Tara (Garnet), and brother-in-law Jeff. He was also a loving Uncle to Sean, Dustin (Christy), Britney, Jayden(Breanna), Brody (Mary), Kaylyn (Mathew), Jeremy (Raven), Alex, Ben, Ryan, and Morgan. He will also be greatly missed by his Aunties; Joan, Darlene, Beth, Lori, Sheila, Cindy, Phyllis and Linda, Uncles Burnie and Ken, as well as many cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by Herbert and Edith Fowell (Great Grandparents), Alan and Phyllis Fowell (Uncle Alan and Auntie Phyllis), John (Jack) Hardy & Alice Hardy-Summers(Grandparents), Gordon and Dorothy Stanley (Grandparents), “Nana”, Jacquelyn Hardy(Auntie), Darlene Chapman (Auntie), Kevin Morrison (Cousin), Patricia Hardy (Auntie), Marvin Laluk (Uncle), Bill Dickson (Uncle), Russ Reid (Uncle), Neil and Carol Cowe and Jordon Ward.

Barry was born on November 4, 1966, in Brandon, Manitoba, where he lived his entire life. From an early age, he had a zest for life and a deep love of the outdoors. As his mother described him, he was an “adventurous wee soul.” Some of his happiest memories were made at the farm,at Clear Lake, on the hockey rink and at the family home on Louise.

Barry met the love of his life, Barb Phillips, in his teens, and they were married on September 9,1989. Together they raised three children, Jenna, Cole and Brock. Fatherhood was Barry’s greatest joy. He was actively involved in all of his children’s activities, from hockey and soccer to camping, fishing, boating and countless family gatherings. He was their Dad, their biggest supporter and, on the hockey rink, their “bench boss.”

Barry’s passion for hockey eventually led him to coaching, where he became known as “Coach BK.” He coached many young players, including his own children, and became a valued member of the Brandon minor hockey community. One of his proudest accomplishments was taking a team considered the “underdogs” to Provincials—and winning. He was equally proud of being selected to coach the Brandon squad at the Director’s Cup in Roblin.

Barry’s love of the outdoors was just as strong. He learned bird hunting alongside his father and looked forward every year to deer season and the November run. Hunting brought friendship, tradition and plenty of stories, while fishing provided endless adventures. He fished Clear Lake, Rivers, Sandy Lake, Oak Lake and the Assiniboine River, always searching for the next “honey hole” and the Holy Grail walleye. His fly-in fishing trips up north with the guys were among his favourite experiences.

Camping and boating were also a big part of Barry’s life. At Oak Lake, he transformed his campsite into a landscaped mini-resort, complete with a bonfire pit, lighted pathways and filleting station. He loved taking his kids out on the boat for water sports, fishing and time together.

Yet, above all these passions was Barry’s love of family. He was a true and loyal family man - someone who made others feel safe, accepted and valued. He was generous with his time, quick with a firm handshake or hug, and never missed an opportunity to wish someone a happy birthday or celebrate a special occasion. The family gatherings at Louise and the Christmas celebrations at the East End Hall were traditions he treasured.

Barry was also an incredibly hard worker. He devoted most of his working life to Welders Supplies and, toward the end of his career, took on a managerial role at Linde. He was methodical, organized and took pride in everything he did. A talented carpenter and handyman, he built a hockey rink in his backyard for his children and created a gathering place filled with Christmas celebrations, bonfires, shinny, music and hot chocolate. His most recent project transformed an idea and a sketch into a backyard paradise.

His years of dedication to his wife, kids, family, work and the many kids he coached leaves a legacy that will live on forever. Though our hearts are broken, we will forever celebrate the incredible person Barry was and cherish the memories, laughter, love and times we shared. His generous spirit and the mark he left on the lives of so many will live on. When he loved you, he loved you big! And he was so easy to love in return.

Barry was a man of faith and was grateful for the prayers and support of his church community.

There is peace in knowing he is now resting in the arms of our Lord. “Living the dream.”
