Barbara Evelyn Paterson (nee Campbell) formerly of Oak Lake, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, February 13, 2003. Barbara was born on January 29, 1917 at Harding, Manitoba. On September 14, 1935, she married Tom Paterson and moved to Oak Lake. Barbara's love for God and humanity was evident. Her interest went far beyond her family to the orphans, the mentally handicapped and people in difficult circumstances. Her door was always open for one or more. Barbara's life touched many people. Barbara was predeceased by: her beloved husband Tom in 1997; three sisters, Francis Campbell, Laura Redding, Velma Inglis; one brother, John Dixon Campbell and a son-in-law, Chester Sparr. Barbara is survived by her two sons, Jerry and his wife Stella, Harvey and his wife Barb; two daughters, Beatrice Sparr of Boyle, AB, Barb (Ted) Smith; a special nephew, Richard Campbell; special grandson, Jonathan Paterson Northpeigan. There are seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She also leaves a sister, Dorothy Garratt of Wawota, SK, two brothers, Bill Campbell and wife Polly of Kenton, Bob Campbell and wife Rose of Thunder Bay and an uncle, Bob Campbell Sr. and wife Marion of Griswold as well as nieces, nephews and a host of friends. At the time of her passing, she lived in Brandon at Governor's Gate with her grandson, Jonathan and a very special friend, Jamie Skinner. A prayer service will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Monday, February 17, 2003 at 7:30 pm. where family and friends are welcome to come and share a story, a memory or a song. A grand celebration of Barbara's life will be held at the McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church, 635 McDiarmid Drive, on Tuesday, February 18, 2003 at 1:00 pm. Pastor Craig Gibbs will officiate. Interment will follow at the Shiloh Cemetery. In memory of Barbara Paterson, donations may be made to the Brandon Community Options, 136-11th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 4J4.
