MCLEOD: Audrey Eugenie McLeod passed away suddenly at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Sunday, January 25, 2004 at the age of 68 years. Audrey was born on August 21, 1935 in Virden, Manitoba the daughter of Stephen and Ella Sloychuk. Her love of animals surfaced at an early age. As a child Audrey brought home every stray dog and cat that crossed her path. She reveled in trips with her parents to far-away places like New York and Chicago to visit friends and relatives. During Audrey's youth she worked as a candy striper at the Virden General Hospital. After she graduated from Virden Collegiate Institute, she attended Brandon School of Nursing. She won a silver medal for finishing with top marks in her First Year of Nursing Class, and graduated in 1957 in both the R.N. and R.P.N Program. Her career in nursing was spent at the Brandon Nursing Home, Cornwallis Nursing Home, the Assiniboine Centre (Palliative Care) and Fairview Home. Audrey loved to laugh and was noted for her compassion, generosity and kindness. She enjoyed bingo and spent many evenings at the Sokol Hall indulging this passion. She was also known for her green thumb; plants of all varieties thrived as if by magic under her care. Throughout the years, Audrey always had a cocker spaniel as a faithful companion. She adopted her last dog, Candy from Pet Rescue in 1995. Audrey especially loved times spent with family and friends. All would gather regularly for supper at her house on weekends, not only to partake of her excellent cooking, but to bask in the warmth of her convivial nature. Audrey was predeceased by her mother, Ella in 1977 and her father, Stephen in 1990. Her memory will be cherished by: her children Barbara Robinson of Brandon, Gary (Judy) McLeod of North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Greg (Debbie) McLeod, Bob McLeod, and Jamie (Darlene) McLeod, all of Brandon; grandsons Colin, Ryan and Brendan McLeod; granddaughters Lauren and Kaitlyn McLeod and numerous friends and relatives. A time of visitation will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Friday, January 30, 2004 from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Ceremony will be held at Memories Chapel on Saturday, January 31, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. The Urn Bearer will be Colin McLeod. All in attendance will be considered Honorary Pallbearers. Interment will follow in the Brandon Cemetery at a later date.
