Obituary

THIESSEN: The death of Art Thiessen, beloved husband of Linda and dear father of Derek and Corey, occurred at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Friday, August 6, 2004. Art was born on July 4, 1950 in Altona, Manitoba the son of Cornelius and Helen Thiessen. He had eight brothers and one sister. The family lived in the Gretna/Altona area until 1959, and they lived in the Killarney/Whitewater area until 1970. Art attended elementary school in Whitewater and high school in Boissevain. He was a grain buyer for Paterson Grain in Grenfell from 1970-1981, when he was then promoted to District Manager and traveled the Grenfell area until 1991. In 1991 he became a Farm Business Representative for the Canadian Wheat Board in the Brandon area. Art had an excellent relationship with the farmers, elevator agents and his co-workers. He loved sports, his biggest highlight in his life was watching, coaching and playing hockey with his two sons. Summers were spent camping and he spent hours pulling his boys skiing. Art and Linda went on many summer and winter holidays. His four grandchildren were particularly special to him. Art was a devoted husband, father and grandpa. He was a caring and giving man, always thinking of others before himself. He will be lovingly remembered by: his wife of 34 years, Linda; sons, Corey (Shelley), their children, Madison and Morgan; Derek (Paula), and their children, McKenna and Rylan. He is also survived by: his sister, Dora Freeman; brothers, John (Carol), Bill (Linda), Henry (Karen), Jake (Robin), Ed (Pat), Larry (Rose), Ray (Teri), and Ron (Kari); mother-in-law, Joyce Parsonage; sisters-in-law, Bev (Denny) Janz, Val (Terry) Moore, Shirley (Rick) Levreault and Heather (Scott) Williams; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Art was predeceased by: his father, Corny in 1979; mother, Helen in 2002; father-in-law, Frank Parsonage in 1996; and brother-in-law, Grant Freeman in 2002. The Funeral Ceremony was held at Memories Chapel on Monday, August 9, 2004. Mona Franklin officiated. Urn Bearer was Art's good friend, Ross Gorski and the Eulogy was given by Jaret and Darren Thiessen. All in attendance were considered Honorary Bearers. Interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery.
