Obituary

Arthur Thomas Huzzey passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Beloved husband, father and grandfather is survived by his wife of 52 years, Milly, son, Arthur (Judy) and their children, Julie, Jill and Steven of Abbotsford, B.C.; son, Reid (Chris) and their children, Helen and Martin of Calgary, Alberta; daughter, Patty (Bob) Meihm and their children, Aaron and Lindsey of West St. Paul, Manitoba; nephew Warren (Paulette) Barber of Brandon and sisters, Em Barber, Phil Linklater, Elsie McLeod and brothers, John, Joe and Ivan Huzzey, and many nieces and nephews. Arthur was born on February 3, 1922 in Berkshire, England to John and Phoebe Huzzey. He worked for the Manitoba Telephone System for 30 years, retiring at the age of 56 years. He enjoyed 20 years of retirement and traveling before being diagnosed with cancer 3 years ago. Arthur was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion #3 Brandon. He was a private pilot and for many years flew his Aeronca Champ. He moved on to building model airplanes, was a member of the Brandon Amateur Radio Club VE4ET and Brandon Radio Controlled Club. Arthur passed his love for flying on to his two sons, who both became pilots. He was a Corporal in World War II and proudly belonged to The Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry, 1940 to 1944 serving in Sicily and Italy. He was wounded twice in action. He enjoyed spending time with his family, of whom he was very proud, and his many friends. According to Arthur's wishes no funeral service will be held. Cremation has taken place and there will be a private family gathering. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Arthur may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Brandon General Hospital Foundation, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 2B3 or Cancer Care Manitoba, ON109, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3E 0V9. Arrangements are with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.

Special thanks to Dr. Daeninck, Pat and Tracey at the Pain Clinic and Dr. Chowdhury of Cancer Care Manitoba, Dr. Norman, Dr. du Plooy and the nurses at Brandon General Emergency and Palliative Care Unit, Brandon Ambulance Attendants and Doreen Sage of Department of Veteran Affairs and Leslie Hayward and her wonderful team of home care nurses.
