CLEAVER: Arthur Ernest "Art" passed away suddenly at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Sunday, April 13, 2008 at the age of 84 years. Art was born on May 6, 1923 at Moore Park, Manitoba. He attended Moore Park School and worked on the family farm until joining the Army. Due to an injury on his last march training he never served overseas but continued to serve his country in Canada. After the war Art continued farming and on October 20, 1948 he married Evelyn Meadows, and together they raised two children, Cheryl and Keith. Art and Evelyn remained on the same farm for 52 years and enjoyed all aspects of farming life. As well as farming he worked in the earlier years with Charlie Curle putting in culverts in various places in Manitoba and then later working with Al Campbell building houses. In his younger years, Art played baseball, and enjoyed curling, fishing, hunting and golfing. Art and Evelyn loved dancing and enjoyed all the Moore Park dances as well as the famous house parties when the furniture was moved back and friends and family would play instruments and dance. They also enjoyed many trips to Victoria to visit family there. Art was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Moore Park Community Club, the Elks Lodge and served as Secretary-Treasurer for the Moore Park Cemetery for numerous years. In 2000, Art and Evelyn moved to Brandon and for the first few years enjoyed short trips to visit family as well as coffee at Zellers. Later on, Art was happy sticking close to home, watching golf, curling and the Blue Jays on TV. His interest in farming, asking about the crops and the spring calving, continued right up until his passing. Art leaves to mourn his wife of 59 years Evelyn; daughter Cheryl (Raymond) Robson; son Keith (Kathy); two grandchildren Jeff Robson (Janique Beaudette), and Jodelle Robson (Ryan Seminuk) and one great granddaughter Danica Robson. Also surviving are brothers: Robert (Margaret), Bruce (Marion); one sister Mildred Halls; brother-in-law Cecil (Jean) Meadows; sisters-in-law: Ethel Meadows, May Parkin and many nieces and nephews also survive. Art was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Mabel; brothers: Bill, Keith and Jim Cleaver; father and mother-in-law, Cecil (Edith) Meadows and brothers-in-law: Ward Meadows, Francis Parkin and Norman Halls. Funeral Service was held Friday, April 18, 2008 at Memories Chapel. Rev. Barbara Jardine officiated. A private interment was held at Moore Park Cemetery. Urn Bearer was Keith Cleaver.
