Obituary

The death of Ted Spencer of Brandon occurred Tuesday February 7, 2006 in the city. A time of visitation will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Thursday, February 9, 2006 from 7:00 pm. to 8:00 pm. The Ceremony to Celebrate Ted's life will be held on Friday February 10, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. at Trinity United Church. Rev. John Nesbitt will officiate. Flowers are gratefully declined, donations in memory of Ted may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation for Palliative Care, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon R7A 2B3. SPENCER: Arnold Edward "Ted" Spencer of Brandon passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Ted was born on October 20, 1932 in Dauphin, Manitoba. He was one of seven children born to Reuben and Mildred Spencer. He was raised in Dauphin and The Pas, were he received his education. Ted moved to Winnipeg in 1949, at the age of 16 years, to take his apprenticeship as a machinist with CNR. He met his wife Helen while living there and they were married in October 1953. Ted worked for CNR from 1949-1966 and then for Simplot from 1966-1987 when he retired. After retiring, Ted worked part time for Manitoba Hydro and Brandon Bearing. He enjoyed over 30 years of square dancing with "Circle 8" and the "Satellite Squares". He volunteered in the 1997 Olympic Summer Games, participated in curling at the Riverview Curling Club and in Seniors Baseball. Ted always enjoyed camping, watching his sons and grandsons play hockey, reading and cards and family get-togethers. He helped build a cabin with his brothers at Crescent Cove outside Dauphin and spent many summers visiting there with family. Ted will be forever and lovingly remembered by: his wife of 52 years, Helen; children, Larry (Cathy) Spencer, Debbie (Henry) Colon, Bob (Ruth) Spencer, Don (Kathy) Spencer, Dianne (Gary) Lipinski, and Barry (Karen) Spencer. He will be dearly missed by his fourteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sisters, Peggy Knott and Lorraine Irving; brothers, Neil, Bruce and Ken Spencer and their families. Ted was predeceased by: his parents, Rueben and Mildred Spencer and sister Judy. A time of visitation will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Thursday, February 9, 2006 from 7:00 pm. to 8:00 pm. The Ceremony to Celebrate Ted's life will be held at Trinity United Church, 1515-6th Street, Brandon on Friday February 10, 2006 at 2:00 pm. Rev. John Nesbitt will officiate. Urn Bearer will be Larry Spencer. Honorary Bearers are all in attendance. Interment will follow in the Brandon Cemetery.
