Obituary

HOLLEMAN: It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Arie "Jack" Holleman, of Hobbs Manor, on Monday, November 18, 2013 at the Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg. Born at Sommelsdijk, Holland on August 2, 1925, Jack lived through WWII as a teenager and young man. He served with the Dutch Army in Indonesia for two years from 1945 to 1947. Following his discharge from the Royal Dutch Army, Jack worked for the Queens Tax Department of the Dutch government. He married Magda "Margaret" Uithol in Holland in 1951 and then emigrated to Canada in 1952. After completing Psychiatric Nursing training, Jack worked as a psychiatric nurse at the Brandon Mental Health Centre and for the Manitoba provincial government – social services for thirty eight and a half years. Following retirement, Jack became a grocery store proprietor. He served as president of the Psychiatric Nurses Association of Manitoba and was an active member of the UCT. Jack and Margaret spent many summers in northern Manitoba fishing with his family. They also enjoyed travelling to Hawaii, Mexico, Venezuela and Holland. Jack will be sadly missed by: son Ron (Sharon) Holleman, grandchildren Chris and Kevin (Airdrie) Holleman, great-grandchildren Jayenna and Crewe; son Ed (Nicole) Holleman, grandchildren Dustin, Samantha and Brooklyn. He also leaves a brother John (Marie) Holleman of Brandon and a sister Reit (Gerrit) Vermeer of Three Hills, Alberta. He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Jannetje Holleman, a brother Abraham Holleman in 2002 and his wife Magda in 2009. The Funeral Service was held at Memories Chapel on Monday, November 25, 2013. Pastor Tony Schweitzer officiated. Pallbearers were Dustin Holleman, Kevin Holleman, Chris Holleman, Samantha Holleman, Allen Holleman and Kim McKay. Interment followed at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Jack may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association, 23 12th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 4L6.
