MORRIS (SOPP): Irene Morris (Sopp) passed away peacefully on Friday, May 30, 2003 at her residence, Dinsdale Home, surrounded by her loving family. Mom was born on February 1, 1915 in Carievale, Saskatchewan to David and Jeannette Swanton. She was the eldest of six children. The family later moved from Saskatchewan to other points, ending up in Brandon. On August 24, 1935 she married Harry Sopp and together they had a family of eight children. Mom was an active member in the Drop In Centre and also in the Light Horse Association. She loved to dance, bowl and have a great game of cards. Mom was a kind and caring person who will be missed by her family and friends. The door of our home was always open thanks to Mom. She found great pleasure in family celebrations and rarely missed any grandchildren's weddings. Mom was predeceased by: her parents David and Jeannette; brothers Garnet, Alvin, Edwin, Donald and one sister Shiela; her husband Harry Sopp; two grandsons, one great grandson and one son-in-law. She was also predeceased by Peter Morris. She is survived by her eight children; Joyce (Alex) Reid, David (Marg) Sopp, Jannette (Floyd) Neilon, Howard (JoAnne) Sopp, Sandra (Jack) Bellamy, Dorothy (Dave) Brunnen, Wayne Sopp (Colleen Mallory), Shiela (Bill) Chapman. Also surviving are 26 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren. She also leaves many extended family and friends. The funeral service was held at Memories Chapel on Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at 2:00 pm. with Rev. David Wilson officiating. Pallbearers were: her grandsons Dan and Don Reid, Gerry Neilon, Doug Sopp, James Massingham and nephew Bill Swanton. All grandchildren were considered Honorary Pallbearers. Interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery with a time of fellowship and refreshment held at the Bonanza Banquet Hall. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Irene to a charity of choice. The family would like to thank the staff and especially the compassionate nurses at Dinsdale for their excellent care of Mom and our family. ~ To Mom ~
How very, very lucky we were
That you were our mother
You opened our minds and our hearts.
You always had the time
To tell us a story or sing us a song.
You always picked us up
When we fell down.
You will always be the most
important lady in our lives.
Your love and guidance will
always be with us.
We wish you could have been
With us longer, but we are so
Grateful for the time we had.
All of us, your friends and family,
Will truly miss you.
Thank you so much
For being our mother
May God care for you
As you did for us.Memorials
