A. Dorothy Van Alstine (Dolly Lazenby), passed away December 23, 1999 in Cottonwoods Extended Care, Kelowna, BC after a lengthy illness. Dorothy was born at Millwood, Manitoba on August 14, 1916. She received her education in Foxwarren, Manitoba. It was there that she began her career with the Manitoba Telephone System which continued for 37 years. She worked in several towns before moving to Winnipeg. In 1964, she was promoted to Chief Operator of Directory Assistance. In 1974, she took an early retirement. She enjoyed golf and playing cards, especially bridge. Dolly was a keen fan of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Toronto Blue Jays. In October 1987, she married John Van Alstine of Ottawa and moved to Kelowna. Dorothy enjoyed travelling and went on many cruises throughout the world. She is survived by her loving husband John; two sisters: Venie and Reta of Elgin; two nephews: Garth and Rick (Cheryl) Feasby and family of Brandon; and her extended family in Saskatchewan and Alberta. She was predeceased by her father, mother and five brothers. The funeral ceremony will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2000 at 1:00 pm. at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North with Rev. Ray McMullan officiating. Interment will be at a later date in the Foxwarren Cemetery. Arrangements are with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
