ANNE ELIZABETH (GEEKIE) PAULSEN
September 5, 1911 to October 25, 2006

The oldest daughter of William and Grace Geekie, Anne was born on September 5, 1911 in Elphinstone, Manitoba and told many stories from her early years about school, sports, horses and the farm. Following her marriage to Paul Paulsen in 1932, she and Paul, and their 'boys', lived in Elphinstone, Erickson, Rackham, Whitemouth and Winnipeg prior to retirement to Brandon and Ditch Lake. At Whitemouth Anne worked part time in the post office and she was particularly proud of her 20 years at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. But family always came first and trips back 'home' to western Manitoba were special times. In later years she spent much of her time on letters and cards to family and friends including those special birthday greetings and cheques to all her great-grandchildren. Anne was predeceased by her parents, her husband Paul, her two brothers Jack and Bob, her sisters Ruby Brautigam, Jean Morton and Marg Supeene, sisters-in-law Anna and Olga Hall, Stella Nylen, and brothers-in-law Al Brautigam, Henry Morton, Sigvald, Albin, Rudy, Ludvig, and Richard Paulsen, Art Nylen, Olgot and Gunner Hall. She is survived and mourned by her children John (Phyllis) Paulsen, Barry (Anne) Paulsen, and Terry (Meg) Paulsen, grandchildren Rick (Terri) Paulsen, Kelly (Laurence) King, Danica (Tim) Titley, David (Michelle) Paulsen, Doug (Roselle) Paulsen, Ken (Yvette) Paulsen, Heather (Barry) Ready, Raeann Paulsen, Ronna (Glenn) MacCara, and great-grandchildren Dusten and Brandon Paulsen, Katie and Laura King, Valerie and Andrew Titley, Sidney and Brooke Paulsen, Rob and Luke Paulsen, Jaylyn and Bradi Ready, Meghan and Carter Paulsen, Anna and James MacCara. Anne is also survived by her sister-in-laws Charlotte Geekie, Lilly, Elvie, Almie and Mae Paulsen, and brothers-in-law Hal Supeene and Harry Paulsen. She will also be lovingly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews. The family thanks the staff of the Hillcrest Personal Care Home for the loving care given Anne during her stay with them. The time taken by family and friends to phone or call in to see Mom was also greatly appreciated. A Memorial Service will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North, Brandon on Saturday, November 4, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Anne may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3B 0V9 or to a charity of your choice. REFLECTIONS
We know we are here to say goodbye but also to celebrate her life. We know Grandma is in a better place, she is at peace, and she is happy.
We look back and remember many wonderful memories. A cup of tea, the smell of her Cinnamon buns, the letter in the mailbox, just because. The many Birthday cards always with a check inside. As our children arrived, more cards, gifts, and never missing one special date. A phone call just to say hello.
I know there are 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren but she had a way of making each of us feel so special and important in her life. Playing soccer and other games with her grandchildren, then getting down on the floor to play with her great grandchildren, Gramma's house had the old hockey game, or army men. We would spend hours playing in the basement.
We remember many visits when she was in her apartment. She would stand at the window watching us arrive. The hugs when we walked in the door, the hugs when we left. Her freezer was always full of something that she would warm up in the oven for us to eat. No Grandma we just at lunch, Oh come on sit down, just a bun, then the cheese, then the pickles, and cookies?e table was full, and we always used the good china. Then there was the care package to go home with you.
We're so happy we had those visits. We learned so much about her life. She always had a story to tell of when she was young, or when she was working at the Hospital. When it came time to leave our hugs lasted longer, and many kisses. In her last days, I learned how wonderful the staff at Hill Crest are. They loved Grandma, and she loved them.
I was very proud to be with her last week, those last few days. She was tired. She said it herself she was ready to move on. She was at peace.
This strong woman left this world with such dignity, the only way Grandma would do it. I will always cherish those last moments?king her to give Grandpa a big hug from us.
We know Grandma is sharing her stories and adventures in Heaven, and bragging about her Family. What a wonderful family she has made. Thank you Grandma for making our lives so special. We will always remember a Wonderful, Generous Person.Memorials
