PASKLIVICH (nee McDonald): The family wishes to announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Ann Teresa Pasklivich, following a courageous battle with cancer, on Monday, February 14, 2005 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Mom was born on December 14th, 1932 in New Waterford, Nova Scotia. She attended St. Agnes Catholic School in New Waterford and attended St. Agnes Parish faithfully with her family. Spending time with family and friends was a big part of Mom's life in New Waterford. Her Mom and Dad came from large families and there was always something to celebrate. Mom also worked in the family store, Richard's Dairy in New Waterford. Little did Mom know that her experience in working in the family store would come in handy years later. In her 20's, Mom decided to join her brother Richard in Brandon, Manitoba, where he was in stationed with the armed forces. His rented house was located in the north end and she soon obtained a job at Woolworth's department store. Mom frequented the local corner store, where behind the counter at Harry's Grocery worked a handsome man - Harry Pasklivich. They were soon married at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church. Mom took over running the store while Dad worked at the CPR and she will be remembered by many customers. She attended St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church and several years ago join St. Augustine's Parish. Mom loved to go shopping, watch T.V., listen to the radio, do word search puzzles and listen to music from the Maritimes. She liked to cut out stories, sayings and poetry from anywhere she could find. Mom loved to buy scratch and win lottery tickets, but only the ones that were short and sweet. If she won, she would accept her winnings in crisp dollar bills only! To Mom, family was her most precious gift. Mom was a devoted wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was very proud of her entire family. Mom's house is filled with photos and creative gifts from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and we mean full! She kept every single thing her family made for her. She never missed a birthday party, a school or music concert, a school sports game, a dance recital or a graduation. Mom supported every spell-a-thon, math-a-thon, chocolate bar sale, fruit sale, raffle ticket sale, etc. Mom was always there for us, for anything we needed. Whether it be how to remove a tough laundry stain, to look after the children or pets, or just be there to listen. Two years ago with family, Mom was able to visit Cape Breton, Nova Scotia where we stayed with her dear friends, Mary and Dan Joe MacLeod. We had a wonderful time visiting family, friends and seeing sites all over Cape Breton. We are so glad she got to go "home" again. Mom was diagnosed with bowel cancer three years ago. Despite having surgery to remove the cancer from the bowel, the cancer had spread. She tried every chemotherapy option there was, but no cure was meant to be. She considered herself a cancer survivor, proudly walking the last "Cancer Society Relay for Life" Survivor victory lap. It was Mom's determination to be considered a survivor, that kept her going well after medical expectations. Even with failing health and pronounced side effects from the chemotherapy over the past couple of months, Mom was reluctant to give up the medication. She reluctantly accepted home care services and greatly appreciated all the work they did to keep her at home. Mom went into hospital on January 25th, firmly telling everyone she was going to be going home to her house as soon as possible. But this was not meant to be. Early in the morning of February 14th, a day of love, Mom was reunited with our Dad. God looked down and said, "You have fought the toughest battle, but I need you here at peace with me." So God took Mom to her new home. Mom was the best mother, grandmother and great-grandmother that we could ever hope for. She leaves behind a legacy of loving family, who will always love her and admire her honesty, generosity, determination, strength and courage. Mom was predeceased by her parents: Richard and Mary (nee Muise) McDonald, her husband Harry Pasklivich and her brother Richard McDonald. Mom leaves to mourn children: Nick (Joy) Pasklivich, Jo-Ann (Ken) Pasklivich-Holder, Marie (Joe) Kay, Donna (Jim) Keller, grandchildren: Kristin (Sandro) Foianesi (nee Keller), Kathryn Keller (Dante Luciani), Evie (Ben) Pegelo (nee Kay), Jenni Kay, Jo-Anna Kay, Jorry Holder, Kendry Holder, Casey Klock and Coby Pasklivich, great-grandchildren: Siena Foianesi, Luca Foianesi, Jaidyn Kay and Alexia Pegelo. Prayers were held at Memories Chapel on February 17, 2005 and Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Augustine's Church on February 18, 2005, with Father Leo Fernandes as celebrant. Interment following in the Brandon Cemetery. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Mom to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation - Chemotherapy, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 2B3.
