Obituary

Andrew William Wesley passed away peacefully on May 11, 2001 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre after a brief illness. Andy was born in Brandon on June 4, 1915, the oldest son of William and Margaret Wesley. In 1919 the family returned to Scotland briefly before taking up farming in Deloraine. In 1929 the family moved to 10-08-19 Carroll district. As did many boys of his generation, at the age of 14 Andy quit school to work with his Dad on the family farm. He continued farming until his retirement in 1980, but remained on the farm helping his nephew Greg. Andy loved reading books, watching hockey on TV and attending Brandon Wheat King games. He liked to travel, making three trips to Scotland to visit relatives, and also taking a bus trip down to California to visit Disneyland and Las Vegas, Nevada. Andy really enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews, especially Kathy, Greg, and Greg's children, Madison, Dallas and Storm, as they lived on the same farm. Andy is survived by his brother, Dick (Alice) of Brandon; sister, Peggy (Clare) Cove of Winnipeg; brother, Bob (Joan) of Carroll; sisters-in-law, Jean Wesley of Ottawa and Joyce Opperman of Killarney. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents, William (1974) and Margaret (1959); brothers, Doug (2000) and Charlie (1993). The graveside ceremony was held at the Carroll Cemetery on Tuesday, May 15, 2001 at 2: 00 pm. Pallbearers were Doug Chalmers, Mickey Carlisle, Ian McKay, and Marty Hassard. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Andrew to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 203,42 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, R7A 2B2.
