The death of Alvin Holden, of Brandon, beloved husband of Hazel, occurred at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Friday, December 5, 2003. Alvin Marmion Nelson Holden was born at Stranraer, Saskatchewan on November 23, 1919, one of five children born to Ethel and Sylvester Holden. Alvin received his education at Stranraer and Smiley, Saskatchewan. He later worked with Anglo Oil, then served in the Royal Canadian Air Force and worked with Pioneer Fruit Company. Alvin then became employed with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Dispatch for twenty-five years. His interests included playing baseball and hockey in his younger years. He later enjoyed golf, cribbage and gardening. He especially loved his flower garden. Alvin was a member of the Army, Navy and Air Forces Veterans of Canada, a member of Sokol Hall and always enjoyed bingo. He could always be found chatting with new-found friends. Besides his wife Hazel, Alvin also leaves his daughter, Sharon (Clyde) Stephenson and grandchildren, Chris, Jason and Jennifer Leigh and great granddaughter Kayla. He also leaves brothers, Delmar of England, Merv (Shirley) of Vancouver and Doug (Bea) of Kamloops, BC, Manetta Lavoie of Squamish and many other loving sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Mr. Holden was predeceased by; his father, Sylvester and his mother Ethel May. Cremation has taken place. A graveside ceremony will be held at a later date.
